Comes out on the 9th here, I dont know about you guys but I cant wait to see this movie. Fantastic critical reception and it looks like absolutely classic Lynch. I love Jeremy Irons and have been very keen to see more of Justin Theroux ever since Mulholland Drive. Dianne Ladd and Laura Dern too... lots from the classic Lynch stable.

Have you Americans had it yet? If so, what did you think?

Also, have any of you heard anything about Lynch's art exhibition in Paris? I'm always nervous about guys from popular artistic fields trying to "diversify" into painting or poetry, but Lynch really is a visual artist over a cinematic storyteller, so I think he could get away with it.

hmm......so far, from the looks of it, it's almost being panned all across the board, both by critics and by the few movie going folks who've seen it. There was a reason why pretty much the entire production/distribution cost of this movie early on came out of David's own pockets, man......because even though he's got good studio connections, no one wanted to go near it because apparently it doesn't have any semblance of a plot whatsoever, poor visuals, lousy editing and because some are calling it his most disjointed, puzzling and messy project ever.

I try my best to avoid or disregard critic's reviews of Lynch movies good or bad, but after having tracked this movie's development for almost three years with great anticipation I'm starting to become discouraged by what people have to say about it despite myself because I don't wanna have to sit through a deliberately abstruse and opaque piece of **** garbage for three ******* hours, man.

There's gotta be much easier and fun ways to induce a headache in oneself than that, man.

That's weird because all the reviews I've read in this country have been fantastic. Empire gave it five stars, Total Film gave it four, they loved in on Newsnight, loved in on The Culture Show. Newspaper reviews havent come out yet as they only review the week, not the month, but their critics seem to be salivating with anticipation. Honestly, (almost) everyone here is billing this as "Lynch's greatest masterpiece". The only critics I've seen pan it have been the moronic populist type who make snoring noises during reviews. Maybe its different national tastes or something?

I think he was an abstract painter before he became a director......so if you really dig the cinematography/visuals displayed within his flicks, then there's probably a good chance that you'll appreciate his canvas work aswell.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I think I'll see it if I'm in Paris, but wont go to Paris to see it.

Overall, it wasn't well received in its New York, LA, and Boston premieres here, so I'm really only going by that as I havent read any of its early European reviews yet.

I hope that it continues to garner the great acclaim in Europe that it's getting and that the groundswell of support catches on, on this side of the ocean aswell.

Absolutely... the scene in Mulholland Drive where Justin Theroux returns home to find his wife in bed with the pool guy is, in my opinion, one of the greatest scenes of all time.... largely due to that amazing, ripping jazz background music.

Seriously though man, it's getting a lot of love and plaudits over here so far. It seems like more of a European sort of movie.

I don't know why I'm so emotionally invested in this movie's success, but I really hope that it does well, man.

btw, how are you able to recall that particular scene like it's a photo imprint on your brain or something? I was having serious trouble recalling the key scenes from Down by the Valley which I only saw on Friday and you're waxing about the Jazz track playing in the background of a movie I'm presuming you haven't seen in the past six months or so?

If I remember correctly (and I'm straining here), he got his ass whupped and had paint (pink?) emptied all over his snazzy suit, right?

Kinda... he walks in, sees a pool cleaner truck but no-one by the pool, goes through the kitchen, into the corridor and down to his bedroom where he finds his wife in bed with a muscular pool guy... his wife starts abusing him and the pool guy tries to calm her down while he stands there looking shocked, then he grabs her jewellery box and walks back out towards the kitchen... she is confused for a moment then screams after him and hurries to put her clothes on... he goes into a sideroom, grabs a half used tin of pink paint and then walks into the kitchen, slowly opening the paint and the jewellery box... she runs in screaming to see him emptying paint all over her jewells and rubbing it in with his hands, she screams and launches herself at him yelling at him to get out.... he doesnt move when the pool guy comes in and comments that he obviously doesnt understand english, laying him out with a hard punch to the face... he picks himself up and staggers back out to his car and drives off..... all the way through this lyrical jazz melody plays in the background.

I have a good memory for things like that, hence why I never had to take notes or do revision at school and still did pretty well. I love scenes which are perfectly in balance like that, another great example is the Da Nang Hooker scene in Full Metal Carlos*et... just cinematic pefection.

^^^ hahaha.....yeah.......flash of memory. That was it, man. I pretty much read that vivid description like a projector does with a movie reel.....nice.

btw, he does get the paint on his suit, no? I distinctly remember myself cringing when he walked back to his sweet looking porsche with the paint dripping from all over 'em with not a care in the world saying to myself ..."Dude, NOT THE UPHOLSTERY, NOOOO"

Yeah, he does get alot on his suit, it actually looks quite cool, and I think it was ultra quick drying and therefore didnt ruin the car, so all in all not a bad score.
