Real sign Cannavaro and Emerson

Cannavaro captained Italy to victory at the World Cup this month
Real Madrid have announced the signing of Italy World Cup-winning captain Fabio Cannavaro and Brazil midfielder Emerson from Juventus.
The pair, who have signed a two-year deal with a further one-year option, will link up with their former Juve boss Fabio Capello at the Bernebeu.

Spanish radio said the deal was worth a combined 20 million Euros (£13.7m)

Juventus were relegated from Serie A last week after the match-fixing scandal which rocked Italian football.

They will start the 2006/07 campaign in Serie B with a 30-point deficit.

Real are looking to rebuild after three years without a trophy and the pair are the first arrivals at Madrid since new president Ramon Calderon came to power earlier this month.

A statement on the club's website said: "Real Madrid can confirm it has reached an agreement with Juventus over the signing of Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson.

"The players are currently on holiday and will be presented at the Bernabeu after signing their respective contracts."

Finally Real have a brick wall at the back. This might be over-emphasizing the magnitude of this move but with Cannavaro at the back Real, to me, turn into instant CL and La Liga favorites.

Not a bad deal for Juventus considering they are both in their 30s.

We said the same when they signed Samuel a few years back, we will see.

Cannavaro will be a much more easier fit in La Liga than Samuel who is rather slow for a team that plays as open as Real Madrid. Shame about the age.

Some did, I didn't buy into the Samuel hype. I have never considered him any better than an average defender. Cannavaro has always been one of the best CB's in the world in my book.

They've got brilliant GK, a good young defender in Ramos, and he will learn a lot from Cannavaro. I personally think there are better DM's than Emerson out there, and i seriously think he might turn into another Gravesen for Madrid (not the Gravesen from the first season mind you). I say that because La Liga is less physical than Serie A and some tackles he got away with in Italy, might be carded at Spain. Still a good player though.

Madrid has a nice midfield and a good backline, now they need their forwards to get on form. Ronaldo, Raul, Cassano...

Seems like a temporary solution. Cannavaro is great defender but how much time has he got left? And Emerson seems past it lately. While £14 million for the two seems like a good deal, I can't help but think they're just going to have to replace them in 2 years anyway.

Emerson could do what Makelele did at the club, provide a strong resistance at the back.

I doubt it, I dont think he is as good as some people think he is.

Zambrotta will most likely got to Barca...for 14 million euros. I wonder why we did not push harder for him, that a good price for him.

I thing the price is cheap, Cannavaro worlds best CD only going for what at most 10million pounds on his own? Sheva went for 30million although to Chelsea, sounds like a good deal.
