I think Germans were the best team of the tournament....and worthy champions...but I always thought there was something really strange in that ugly final game. It's clear from the slow motion picure than Monzon's tackle (that caused the red card) barely even touched the jumping Klinsmann who pretended to be badly hurt...and cried like a dying little girl. The penalty was really, really weird too....wonder how many referees....under normal circumstances would ever award a penalty like that in a world cup final....?

Yeah, this news came up on various Argentinean newspapers that indicated that Brheme said that the penalty never existed :rolleyes:

it was poetic justice, i mean come on Argentina got to the finals through penalties not by being better than the other teams, as much as i think Diego is the greates player to ever grace the pitch it was fitting that they lost by a penalty

The whole WC 1990 was a setup.Dull games lots of 0-0,lots of penalty shootouts,lots of defensive play.It was the the most boring WC of all time.

No I was 1 year old back then.Just heard it from football experts on tv once.The most spectacular game was Cameroon-England 2-3,with three goals coming from penalties.

this is really really old news about italia 90 i was only born that year and ireland got to the quater finals and they were playing italy and there were hundreds of rumours of the mafia putting lagre bets on italy and we as an irish nation discover the unease of the match:SO this is very old news
