Is FIFA a hardware killer ?

I'd like to set up this problem.

My friend's low-end computer's not yet upgraded enough to play FIFA09 and while waiting from his daddy's support, he tried to re-install FIFA06 to play instead. By chance, I visited him and saw him play it. My first impression is FIFA06's graphics is not worse than FIFA09 at all, I can say it's even better. (If someone's here still keeping FIFA06, just try to re-install and play, you can easily realize this). For the gameplay, FIFA06 may not be realistic but I think it has more fun (if you need fun, try to replay fifa06, if you need realistic, o.k let's play fifa09). Though, I especially like fifa06's ball physics, maybe it's better FIFA09's one. And, stadiums, flares are so active. (If you still remember, the flares in 2006FIFA WC and festival atmosphere are the best until now, you can review it). For the movement, I assume, of course FIFA09's is better.

So, except for gameplay, movements, I think there's no actual and remarkable advance of graphics compared with old FIFA versions (I mean fifa06) while new FIFA version consumes so much next-gen hardware resource. And is it fair?

One more thing, I'm suspicious now. Is there any 'black' cooperation b'tween game designers & VGA manufacturers? As you see, gamers must buy new hardware components to catch up with the new games of which the latter version always require more and more than the last ones. I accept, certainly, if more graphical improvement, obviously. But the efficiency is not always coming along. For me, I have changed 3 VGA cards within in 3 years. The 1st one's guarantee period was still not expired even. Cost was much, but satisfaction wasn't the same.

This is ironic, since for years most people here have complained about EA's lack of technological upgrades in the FIFA series. And I don't know what your graphics settings on 09 are, but it looks about 10 times better than 06 did. Also, 09 still isn't next generation - it's the same PC codebase that was introduced in 06.
The simple fact is that in today's gaming market, you unfortunately will have to periodically invest in hardware. I'm not just talking video cards either (you seem to be focusing on those); dual and quad core processors have changed everything. I'm also a little surprised that you've gone through 3 video cards in 3 years - do you always get the cheapest one that meets your minimum requirements? I mean, even my 3 year old laptop's integrated video card runs 09 (admittedly, at a painfully slow framerate).
finally, regarding your "black cooperation;" I can't help but laugh. This is how technological development has frequently occurred throughout history. Two related branches of tech (in this case, the hardware and software of computers) build on each other. The hardware manufacturers keep improving their product, which gives software developers additional resources which they use to create better programs, but soon the new programs start to push the boundaries of the hardware's capabilities, forcing the hardware manufacturers to further improve their side. It becomes an endless cycle.

So, to recap - I disagree that 09's graphics are unimproved; EA has every right (and I would say duty) to utilize the technology the majority of its users have; there is no secret society forcing gamers to buy newer technology besides the nature of technological devolopment.
But if you like 06 better, no one is forcing you to get 09. Hell, sometimes I still play 03, just because I can.

I understand your point of view and agree with most of the cases, namely, higher hardware requirement, higher graphical looks.

But, don't you see that sometimes stuffs at high price not always give us a satisfaction at the same level (high). E.g the version EURO 2008 consumes higher level of hardware requirement compared with the old versions but don't u see that its graphics was worse.

Concretely, Euro 2008's graphics was worse than FIFA06 while it requires more hardware resource. So is it logical and fair? And, see, it's useless and ridiculous that your house is better furnished but your living is not improved.

Hoping you catch my thinking.

The hardware requirements are not down to graphics only. It's also about the gameplay, and all the small details in the game.

it depends on hardware config my friend. I ran it on a laptop on full settings everything (sadly no 1280x800 resolution only 1280x768 WS :( ) and i wasnt too happy. But on my desktop, at 1600x1200 i was amazed!

Plus it has to do with coding of the game. COD4 ran sweeet on my old system, yet NFS Pro Street never worked. How the programmers code the software can also affect it and your hardware config... right?

BTW is there are way to get rid of the jagged edges around players? like any hidden option to get better Anti-Aliasing?
