is defending much harder?

Most goals scored against me have been the result of some strange "happenings" between different members of my defence. Whether that be a "which one am I in control of" problem or not being entorely sure why they are doing whatever it is their AI is telling them to do.

I agree. Switching between the players in the defense is sometimes very hard, no matter if you put the thing to manual or auto, as you often don't get in control of the player you really want.

This has been the case with all PES/WE games though, but it gets more visible in PES2 for some reason. With more games on your back you'll get more used to it though, and are able to control the defense a lot better.

Manual player selection is one of the weakest aspects of PES games; frankly, it's p*ss-poor. There seems to be this uncanny knack of not allowing you to switch to control the player closest to the ball. Sometimes it'll wait until your 3rd attempt to switch, sometimes it won't let you switch to him at all but simply switch between two player nowhere near the action. It's one of the few areas where FIFA is clearly better.

Semi-auto is equally annoying as it has a remarkable capacity of deciding to switch control to another player at crucial moments. Hopefully......hopefully, KCET will finally address this issue in PES 3.

One thing I've observed with defending in Konami games is that switching defenders too often is fatal. That is, in the heat of defending, there is a tendancy to want to switch defenders too often, the game will just give you a guy that is on the far side, hehe. Usually the first person the game gives you is in the best position to make a play.

the defensive AI is IMO the only thing that has gotten worse with PES2 compared to PES. it's quite annoying. sometimes players 2 meters away from the ball just don't move when they are not selected. as i said in the other thread: they leisurely watch on as the CPU is marching towards the goal. i was hoping this would change once you have a Nesta or a Ferdinand... but it doesn't, does it?
