oh my damn goodness!
the f'uckin FIFA community do cheat the italians in such a ridiculously obvious way....it's so unbelievable!
the fourth goal that a FIFA referee denied Italy!
That was THE most regular GOLDEN GOAL in a FIFA World Cup by Tommasi EVER! offside? f'uck you referee!
also the red card for Totti was RIDICULOUS! not a clear penalty but NO YELLOW CARD NO WAY!

italy, DO SOMETHING. these f'uckin FIFA morons must NOT get away with this crap!

ps: i'm not italian but i cant handle injustice like this.
btw. south corea didnt play that well actually. Panucci's mistake was their last chance. i hope Spain wins the quarter final now!

Don't emphasize on cheating, if the Italians got the most of their chances, they won the game without going into extra time.
I think you can't say Corea didn't play that wel; if you beat Italy after already thrown Portugal out, I think they did brilliantly.
They play very attractive attacking football, very brave for such a small country!
No, you are probably not pro Italy but you are definitly not pro Corea....
Well done Corea, keep up the good work!

Hi,
I am italian.
I did not like the way my team was playing, i found it horrible but I like football and I tried to see every match of this WC edition.
But now I am sad, very sad. What I saw is incredible, it is a shame. Korea just stole a few golkd metal during Seul olimpyc game some yera ago. I was prepared to see someting strange but....it was too much. If this is what they call football, well I prefer to turn off my tv and do something else.

Yes, I can see, you are Italian :D
Sorry for you my friend but there also were times you were succesfull despite playing anti-football.. remember Holland-Italia in Euro 2000?
Okay I know, we must score better from the spot :)
But if Italy stop playing cattenaccio and plays positive football you have one of the most talented teams in the world. The way Italy played this tournament they make the problems coming over them....

Sory for my English, I wrote too fast....
Han,
I agreee TOTALLY with you. I am bored to see my country playing the same defensive football. I want to see them attack, I found ridicolous their matches against Croatia and Messico. They had to attack Korea to score the second gol.
But in the same time I have to admit this time referee was a shame. Korea is a good team but why, why every time there is some important competition in their country, something strange happens?
And how can it be possible referee denied 4 regular goals to Italy?

I admit, Italy was not lucky, in particular vs Croatia, like the way Belgium was stolen vs Brazil... clear goal!
The must only use experienced refs and linesmen in such an important tournament. Those inexperienced men probably are intimidated by such a big crowd... The Belgian goal was disallowed by a Jamaican ref... :(

This has been going on for a long time, and not just towards Italy. It's a problem that hopefully FIFA can solve by making some minor changes. I really don't want to believe it could be on purpose.

Han, I live in the US but am of Italian decent so I of course root for both countries and i would have to agree. They can blame the refs all they want and rightfully so actually based on what we have seen. However, if they would have tried to get another goal and finished there other chances it would not have mattered. Why take out Del Piero and put on Gattuso with 33 minutes to go. The refs were terrible but I am not going to blame them because they did not play all that well in the tournament either. It was the yypical we have a 1-0 lead let's sit on it and cost them this time. They need to stop doing that and do better with there chances. Besides if it to go to PK's they would have probably lost anyway like the previous 3 WC's. At least I can still root for the US and if they go out I guess England.

Ezio,
I hope Italian players and managers finally will learn the lesson.
They have to play! And they have to play good friendly matches too instead of thinking these matches are useless.
Now I must go, it's time to eat but....

hehe, i seem to be more angry with the referee's decisions than all the italians here :)
weird...

btw. han, c'mon corea really didnt perform that amazing. first half they played really bad and second half they played even worse. if Panucci didnt make that mistake corea would be out of the show now. in the overtime corea improved but however like i already said, the first cheating was the red card for Totti which was ridiculous and IMO maybe even a penalty and the next cheating was the REGULAR goal by Tommasi!
so dont say corea played well, they were just plain lucky IMO.

i hope Spain kicks their butts now. they are WAY overestimated!

ps: han, you dont like corea because of Hiddink do you?

ps²: you are right i dont like underdogs except turkey because i dont wanna see a final: Senegal vs. Corea, nah sayin?
that would be the most f'ucked up thing i can think of.

ps³: those two stupid f***s Kim and Wang deserved the red card after the punch against Del Piero and the foul against Zambrotta and NOT Totti!

italy got cheated, hands down!

Maybe that says enough about your post :D

You can't be overestimated if you beat Portugal, Poland (1st country who did qualify for Corea/Japan) and Italy

ps: han, you dont like corea because of Hiddink do you?
Of Course it is one of the reasons; at least he's the only Dutchman who can win the world title :D But to be serious: Hiddink deserves respect; most small countries try to survive with defensive football, but Corea plays attacking and fast football.
Even without Hiddink I would support a small country who plays in such a brave way. Those Coreans has a great hart!

I was rooting for Korea (I love an underdog), but I certainly didn't want to see them win this way. To say that Italy deserved to lose because they sat on the lead is total bunk. They deserved to lose the lead, not lose the game. The notion that a team has to win by 2 or 3 goals just because they are an inherently more skilled team is ridiculous. Italy lost this game due to bad officiating, not because they failed to score multiple goals. End of story.

Good luck and congrats to Korea; they did play well.

Totally agree here. Each team should play it's only way and a win is always more important than how you win it, as long as it's won in a sportsmanship manner. Italy deserves not to have lost that way and the refereeing was really bad. To say the least, they are just incompetent (maybe made nervous by the home crowd), and to say the worst, it's just so biased and fixed. It just seems like the benefit of the doubt always go to Korea -- if Italy fouled, they got yellow cards, while if Korea fouled, they got the ball back!!!

Referring to the logic that Italy should have finished off Korea so none of this could have affect the outcome. THEY DID AND THEY SHOULD HAVE, IF THE REFEREES WOULD EVER HAVE GIVEN THEM THE RIGHT CALLS. They were actually the better side of the game and they have far more concrete chances.

And, good luck to Korea, and certainly more people will root for them if the referees were better.

No you're not the only one that is mad about the refs. But at the same time what are you going to do? FIFA is the one that is sitting on its a$$. They are so afraid to make any change in the game that they'd prefer to leave these types of things to chance than instituting a system that improves and or helps the ref call fouls, observe diving (not like this idiot who makes a call from midfield in the Italy game), shirt pulling, off sides, penalties etc.

And the reason a lot of people didn't complain is because they (me included) don't want to be mistaken for sore losers. I really would like to see any change that aids referees, and I'm not talking about replays, or anything that will slow the game down, but a couple of more "line aids" would go a long way in reducing the amount of games in which these types of calls occur. I think people who objectively observe a lot of the games in this or any WC will agree that minor changes are in order to assure that this sport continue to improve in all aspects.

I think if we all would be honest with ourselves we would find a couple of things. First of all i've seen better officiating in my lifetime so far. Second of all Italy have ONLY themselves to blame.

The ref made dodgy decisions thruout the match. He did not favor either team in my opinion. I was equally as puzzled with his calls or lack there of for both teams. I would say he did below average for this tournament. The game is changing fast, but the refs are not changing along with the game of football. However, Italy can only point at each other as the cause of their demise. Did anyone watch spain ireland? Did any of the italian officials watch that game? coach did you see it? Italy did almost player for player what spain did. They had the mindset of we are up one goal, let us sub some of our offensive players and put defensive players and hang on to the lead. Now, I know this is the typical Italian mentality which I use to despise put I have come to respect that different countries have different styles of soccer. However, if one were to learn anything from history, the same tactics didn't work for spain, but they got away with it, Italy wasn't as lucky.

Poor attempted clearance by Panucci, what was he doing? Anyway, it was also a handball in the box that panucci made with the failed clearance but the ref didn't call that. There should be no advantage there (if the corean player missed it would he have called a penalty? heh). And finally Vieri, oh Vieri. Nobody is talking about his miss in extra time that would have finished the game italy goes thru. Everyone is focusing on the calls of the refs. Well the ref didn't call offsides on vieri, he didn't call a push off or anything. The ref didn't get in the way of the ball, the ref wasn't even close to the action..how then can you turn and say it is the refs fault when vieri had a perfect pass, a beaten defender, a keeper in no-man's-land, a wide open net and still puts the ball over the bar. That was harder to miss than to get I swear.

These are just MO.

Hmm. How do you suggest they "slow the game down"? From my television screen, I can call correctly when a player dives and when he is fouled. I mean it doesn't take a brain surgeon for such. I think we just need a new generation of refs perhaps. The ones that are there now are not keeping up with the game and I mean this figuratively and literally. The only ref that I see is close enough to the action is Colina. He is always running his diagonal close the ball. Morena wasn't too close the to ball. He was just lagging behind the play making a call he has to run 20 yards to catch up.

One thing that I don't like that the refs do is that before a world cup they say, okay this time around no kidding we are going to call xyz foul. During the cup they are not consistant. What ever happened to yellows for diving? As far as i'm concerned the refs only call diving in the box when someone is fetching a penalty. I thought it applied all over the field. However, last world cup they said they would clamp down on the slides from behind. I think we can all agree that any slide tackled from behind meets atleast a yellow card these days. So maybe it does take time for these changes to be enforced.

The other major issue is the offsides call. The only reason this is facing such criticisim is the fact that we have 200 cameras in the stadiums these days. They have a camera on each star player just tracking them thruout the game. Back in the day this wasn't the case so when and official says offsides we believed them. Now we have video evidence that we like to wave in the officials faces and tell them that they are absolutely wrong.

I think the refs can be a lot better than they are right now but I'd have to give them credit for the job that they do...remember they only have one look at these calls while the rest of us have Camera A, B, C and D and 2 mins of reviewing to make our calls.

You didn't understand, I was proposing two additional linesmen helping the main ref to make calls. (Each would observe 1/4 of the field basically, I think this would go a long way in avoiding what we've seen.) This would NOT slow the game down. Why would I want that. I like the pace of games, the fact that there aren't any commercials or interruptions is great.

Oh, okay. This is a good suggestion, other sports have a few officials on the court/field/whatever. Basketball has the same number as does soccer even tho it is a smaller area. However, the two referees assistants that are there right now don't really do their job fully. They are responsible for calling fouls not only offsides, throw-ins, goal kicks and corner kicks. I've seen a refs assistant call a foul maybe 10 times total this world cup? An extra pair of eyes wouldn't hurt the game at all, however the laws are already in place, they just have to be enforced. Refs, in general need to wake up.

I think it is not practical to appoint even more linesman.
First of all, you also have to do that on amateur-level because those problems also exist overthere. So where we get them from? It is already hard to find referees for a match and this way you get even more shortage of referees.
Second, it will not help, as the problem is the fact that the linesman has to look at two places at the same time (the moment the ball leaves the foot of the passer and the position of the receiver).
You can solve this two ways:
by using the TV-camara's as proof, but that works only in professional football, the amateurs don't have that to their proposal.
The second way is get rid of off-side...
