It's the little things...

The other day I was introducing my friend to WE6. While we were playing a coop game together, an offensive corner kick situation came up for us. I took the corner and my friend took a touch and then shot at goal. The ball hit the defender on the post in the hand, then hit the inside of the defenders left calf, and then went between the defenders legs and into the goal. While all of this was happening, the keeper dove and stretched out his hands to attempt a save. His hands went BEHIND the defender's legs...but, he was just a tad too late to make the save. Incredible! Unfortunately, my friend and I took too long admiring the goal that we forgot to save the replay in time. This is when I became aware of the somewhat frustrating replay controls in the game. But, that's for another thread....

Last night, I also saw the ball roll on the ground and hit the corner flag post to come back into play.

Collision detection is great too.

Last night, against Madrid, I lofted in a high ball from a free kick that was heading straight to the goalkeeper just in front of the goal-line. Sheringham ran in but was behind the goalie, so didn't stand a chance. But just as he was about to catch the ball a Madrid defender came in and in an attempt to head the ball just nudged his keeper, who failed to catch the ball. Sheringham was right there, on the goal-line, and just tapped the ball into the empty net with his head.

The other thing is shots that you can actually feel hit the sweet spot.

There was a bobbling ball just outside the area. Players were flying in left right and center in a bid to clear the ball/create a chance. The ball just rolled into some space, about 30yrds from goal, and Doni happened to be charging forward. SMASH! You actually felt that it was a good shot the moment he hit the ball. It flew passed the keeper at quite a rate of knots into the top right corner.

Like you said, it's little things like that that make this game what it is.

I was playing in the ML with Roma on Normal and still had the default players. Forget who I was playing but the guy took a shot and it hit the post and hit the keeper before rolling over the line for a goal.

finally, i was able to track down a copy of we6. i've only played a few matches but i can tell already this game is excellent. i have to admit the players response to moves and passes is a bit slower than i would like, but that's just a matter of getting used to it (read: been playing fifa for far too long).
one question: is there a way to control the gameplay speed? you practically need a sherpa to navigate the menu interface and i'm wondering if i'm just overlooking it somewhere.

I was playing brazil and I was attempting for the longest to score a goal like the one they show in one of the preview movies.......I sent Roberto Carlos on a run and he centers it......I didnt score with the header but made a scare, it was a nice cross so I decided to replay it..................what happens next is unbeliabable.........

When I look at the other angle of the camera I see that after Roberto Carlos lobbed the ball to the box, he fell and immediatelly tries to get up to catch a glimpse of the action.........as soon as I missed he stares at the ground for a few seconds and then yells something to the attacker.......then as he walks back he gives his classic thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!........I was flipping out literally!!

hpw did you replay it if there was no goal?

Once I was playing with ManU in the Master League and I had Cantona and near the end of the game when I was taking a corner.....and you won't believe this.....Cantona runs into the crowd and kicks a fan in the head!!!

It was so awesome - I also looked at the replay of that, I couldn't believe it. Konami must have done some motion capture of head kicking!

I totally agree - it's the little things that make this game the best!

I was thinking the same thing. Also, how could you look at it from a different angle if you didn't score?

Which brings me to another point. Konami should make the saveable time frame longer. Don't you just hate it when you string together a bunch of moves and passes en route to goal and the replay chops it all up to sh*t

As far as those cool sequences you guys are seeing, I'm gonna have to start keeping an eye out. I'm one of those guys that usually starts smashing the start button if the goal isn't spectacular...

Hi you guys.....just registered. been playing WE6I since it first came out.

The little things huh......well last night I was playing ML and one of my crappy players plays a long ball into the box. Babingida is running onto the ball and it doesn't look like he is going to get there. As he slides to make contact with the ball the keeper reacts thinking babingida is going to get to the ball first. The ball lands just out of Babingida reach, the keeper commits thinking that the shot is coming and ball bounces right between them and into the far post.

Now if that is not realism then I dont' know what is. Just think about many times that has really happened in a game when a ball is driven into the box

That's nothing!

You can't beat FIFA 2003 for realism guys. Take this example:

When I first got the game I was playing as Manchester United against my friends little brother who was Brazil in a tournament involving all three of us. After a few minutes he asked why he couldn't header the ball. I told him it's because the game wouldn't let you header it by yourself. A few minutes later he told me his defense was automatically clearing the ball for him and were running away from the attacker with the ball. I told him that the defense wasn't very smart. He then asked me why the ball went lightning fast when it rebounded off the goalkeeper. Lastly after looking at a replay, he asked me why his goalkeeper walked through the goalpost, got stuck in the middle of it facing the wrong way while his two defenders had their back turned to the player with the ball who was just about to score. I had to admit to him, I didn't have an answer to that one and just had to tell him, sometimes bad things happen and we just can't explain them. Then he said the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life and normally I'd kick his butt for using the word but he threw his controller down on the ground and said "this FIFA game is ****, let's play Gran Turismo".

Realism. Even the kids can see FIFA hasn't got it!

I have played the WE6 series for a year now. Just yesterday was the FIRST TIME EVER that I had ever seen Robbie Keanes little cart wheel and roll routine after he had scored a goal on me! I love how there are always those new little things that seem to always keep the game fresh! I thought it was so awesome too! Then when he scored again in another match against me, I didn't think it was cool anymore. heh
