As I ve got some spare time today, I decide to have a crack at FIFA 2004. I start my career with Barcelona. As I always play with profesional level, so I stick with that in a 6 minutes setting. I seldom play the game coz iz very hard for me to score and make me not so hooked up to the game. How loser I am haha. I won the first match against Valenca 1-0 and it was a penalty (After I restart and restart the match coz Valencia always seems to score first ). Next was up against Valadolid. As the game went on, Valadolid player sent a perfect through ball to the penalty area and they scored through a beautifully executed play. ( I make Rustu rush but their player noticed a team mate in better position to score and pass the ball to him to tap in the goal 0-1 ). I was frustrated!! I was punished again for some slack defending and I conceded a penalty after Rustu brought down the player. 0-2. I was damn frustrated!!! I was thinking of restarting the match again, coz it was very hard even to score once and I dun wanna waste time. BUT I decided to continue on coz I said "Hey, I m playing with Barcelona in Nou Camp. Barca just can't surrender to a team like Valadolid just like that". If I lose I will not going to save the game, So I continue playing. In 1 counter attack, I clear the ball aimlessly in the opposing half, I found Kluivert chasing a lose ball with another defender. As the defender attempt to head the ball back to his keeper. Kluivert intercept and put the ball in the back of the net. I was estatic!! 1-2. Hey I suddenly found the rythm of the game. I attack again and I scored with a beutifully executed volley from Ronaldinho. 2-2 Nou Camp eruppted in joy. Estatic!! Estatic!! Hey I can won the match if I put more effort in. During the second half, Queresma was found facing a defender 1 by 1. I use the skill mode (Shift key) and get pass the defender and broke free. Estatic again coz previously it's very hard to get pass a defender using a skill mode. As I saw Ronaldinho in a very free position, Queresma pass a through ball to him and He blast the ball to a woodwork. Gosh! In a moment later, Enrique was fouled and the Valadolid player was booked for his offence. Ronaldinho step up to take the free kick. He swerve the ball and beat the keeper but not the woodwork. The ball rebound back to play and Kluvert was presented with a chance, but his header hit the side-netting. Damn!! A poor concentration allow an opponent to broke free in a penalty area. I have no choice but to make a tackle. Penalty. Damn!!!! It would be a waste to lost a game like that after a gallant fight back. And Rustu was the hero when he save it! My confident back again. In one moment of attack, Kluivert receive a through ball and shielding the ball well. I rush the player to support him ( I press the "Q" button ). I pas the ball to Ronaldinho and he get pass the defender after I press the skill mode (I failed to get pass a defender when I using the skill mode more often coz it will run towards opponent rather then away from them, but sumtime it works. Just the matter of relentless trying and be smart when to hit the button). Ronaldinho shoot!, and the keeper make a contact with the ball, but somehow the ball get to pass the goal line and into the net. It was 3-2!!!!! Joy. It was in the 87th minutes. I felt nervous for most of the remaining minutes and made lots of mistake and almost get punished when their player hit a good shot but somehow wide of the goal post. Sigh !!! Relief. Final wistle blown. Barcelona 3 Valladolid 2.. Ronaldinho the 'Man Of The Match'.
I realised I just play my best FIFA 2004 match to date. It may sound fake yet realistic, but it happen. It happen in real life football too. It make the game a bit harder to make the scoreline realistic. I wonder if this the realism that all the hardcore footie gamers are looking for.
Although many believe the gameplay was crappy, sometimes it can still be fun to play with. I can't said I will become a FIFA die-hard after this, but I am not complaining either.
I still be enjoying more kicking, dribbling, and shooting with a ball with my friends in the evening everyday, rather than sitting in front of the PC and playing this much publicise footie game. This is the real football.
