Jaap Stam to retire from international service after EC.

VI.nl reports that Stam will quit playing for Holland after the EC, because he wants to concentrate on AC Milan andspend more time with his family. I respect his decision, but it certainly sucks. It leaves us with a crap defence.

What's with all these players leaving the national teams so early?
I mean wtf... they know their country still needs their services and they are important players but they don't give a crap.

Figo is 31 and he has said that he will quit the NT after the Euro... 31!!! What sux even more is that he is still the only player who takes the team forward when the team is playing utter crap that is what has been happening lately :kader:
I bet Portugal won't even be in WC2006 without him... Ronaldo is too young to make the difference in every game.

Not surprised at all that he's leaving... though I would have thought that maybe he would hold out until the WC 2006 but I guess it wasn't to be...

true. but you know, at some point you have to look after yourself. if a player feels the grind will be too much to handle both club and country matches and the body won't be able to take 60-70 games a year, it's up to them. if they think they'll be a better service to their clubs if they reduce the toll by leaving the national team, then so be it. i don't think it's that they don't give a crap about their national teams.

Figo will prob play at WC 06, i cant see any reasons why not.

I always loved Stam. His story is very impressive as well.

My favorite Stam moment for Holland was him kicking that penalty kick at Euro 2000 into space... yes, the black stuff with shiny dots that surrounds earth... space.

look at him after retiring from the Azzurri.. He has won all the top cups on offer in Europe cept the Italian Super Cup.. Which he will win this August.. With Stam.. Againts Lazio.. His old club.. :rockman:
