Just an idea I had... (read it!)

Earlier this summer I had an idea concerning EURO. The competiton in Portugal was very entertaining and I only wanted it to be longer. Also there are more nationalsides in Europe that I think can play football at this level (Iceland was very close to qualifying!). I'm not sure if I'm the first one to get this idea so I'm sorry if you've heard it all before.

The plot is basically this... Add 8 teams to the finals so we will have 24 teams instead of 16. The teams could be devided into 8 groups of three. Only one team will qualify from each group and go on to the quarter finals. Just to proof that there are enough teams to keep the competition exciting let me count 8 teams that could have participated this summer

1. Belgium 2. Rep. Ireland 3. Turkey 4. Romania 5. Slovenia 6. Serbia 7. Norway 8. Ukraine

You see. Every game will count. No team can afford losing a match like this summer since there are only two group games per team and we will see a strong last 8. Tell me how you feel. Does this need more explaining?

that would suck then.. it meant that almost every team that was somewhat good would get to play


and out of those teams u listed.. a even smaller european team would make it and qualify cause an upset with those teams

things are fine how they are I think. The WC has 32 teams, that's enough. Euro is good with 16.

Yeah, that's why Euro is so great. We don't need Saudi Arabias in that competition.

It's only top European teams.

Makes sense but players being tired is the reason for the big names crashing out not the number of teams !

This will offer fewer matches for teams than the current format!
I know this idea sounds "Blatterish" but wait untill you hear how we can get penalty shoot-outs even more rare than before. After 90 minutes the teams will play sudden death and the loosing side starts extra time (silver goal maybe) 1 - 0 down. Sounds... well... futuristic?

the euro cup is good with 16 teams, no more and no less, 16, and that format would be very long, a WC or a Euro is a short competition.
