Liverpool Approach Juve For Zebina
12/20/2005 11:19:00 AM
Liverpool have reportedly made a move for Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina.
The Frenchman is out of favour at the Stadio Delle Alpi after a number of injuries and a pay-rise request deemed to be excessive by the Bianconeri.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has made no secret of his desire to reinforce his back-line, and Zebina would be a versatile option with his ability to fill in at centre-back and at full-back.

Milan are also planning a move for the former Roma star and a part exchange deal with Christian Abbiati -on loan from Milan to Juve- may be in the offing.

Capello: Juve still in pole position

Fabio Capello was amused by the reaction to Juventus after they dropped points at Lazio on Saturday. "I’m so pleased everyone thinks we have been overtaken already," he joked.

The draw with Lazio at the weekend was met with widespread consternation in Italy as it was only the second time the Bianconeri have failed to win in the League all season.

But Capello knows that such a reaction is a testament to how well his side is playing this year and he insisted that his outfit is not about to give away any more ground in a hurry.

"I’m so pleased everyone thinks we have been overtaken already," laughed Capello. "But our future depends very much on us. We are exceeding every expectation."

Don Fabio’s side has indeed performed superbly this season and only the defeat to Milan and Saturday’s draw have blotted an otherwise perfect copybook.

"I have to say that 2005 has been a splendid year," agreed Capello. "What worries me is that it will be difficult to improve upon. When you do this well it is hard to keep it going."

The Friulian tactician will be hoping his side keep it going tomorrow night against Siena, for whom Enrico Chiesa, Igor Tudor and Nicola Legrottaglie were the players he identified as ones to watch.

"They must be respected," said Capello of the Tuscan side. "They have done well and have big players like Chiesa, who is superb at free-kicks."

Another set-piece specialist likely to be playing tomorrow night is Alessandro Del Piero, who will deputise in the absence of the suspended Pavel Nedved.

Pinturicchio is one goal away from becoming Juve’s all-time top goalscorer, so don’t be surprised if he grabs the ball in the event of a free-kick or penalty.

FT 2-0.

What a lead to take into the winter break. Now some well deserved time off for the players.

2005 has been a wonderful year and hopefully 2006 is even better :)

Maybe we'll see a new face the next time Juve play.

PS: Trezeguet has scored in 9 consequetive games. He is having the season of his life.

I already have something to look forward to in 2006. In february I'm going to Werder - Juve in Germany with Juventus Club Olanda, a Juve DOC. :) Basically Italians living in Holland. :p So I'm in the away section and all. Might go to the home game too. (H)

yep thats 11 goals in his last 9 Serie A games.

Did anyone see his goal today ? He made it look so simple taking the ball away from the keeper and a cool finish into an empty net.

Juve's performance wasn't the best today though. Siena came close to equalizing before Juve made it 2-0.

Heh. Inter will peak during the winter break :p

Trezeguet :nape:

Sometimes I really wonder how much better France would be if Trezeguet could play so well with his NT.That aside Juve continue to win matches, even when they don't play their best. 8 points up and things just continue to look good for you guys. Not only that but you've drawn one of the easier teams in the CL, Werder Bremen. Lucky, lucky Juve. I drip with envy. :jap:

a very minor hiccup then back on track

life is good for all at juve at the moment, but the winter break could not have come at a better time

a momunmental effort thus far meant the players really needed this extended break, especially those guys like cannavaro, camoranesi, nedved, zambrotta, ibrahimovic who've played so many of the games

and trezeguet

Trezegol is going to be the top scorer in Serie A this year...watch my words (H) :D
It is now the right time for our team to get a break...they all deserve a break specially Cannavaro, Ibrahimovic, and Zambrotta.

Just a thought...

Buffon has been out all season and Juve are doing amazingly well even without him. Perhaps he could have saved a couple of goals more than Abbiati did but overall, its not like Juve missed him sorely...just that one time when Abbiati got injured and Chimenti had to fill in.

Just goes to show that no player is indespensible. Having said that, once Buffon is back (and with back I mean to his very best) it will be a huge boost to an already watertight defense.

italianstyle87

Starting XI
abbiati has really grown into the job, and now i hardly notice him, which is how it should be

if he plays at another club next season as the no1 keeper he'll be one of the best in serie a

and by the way vitu, i've been saying trez will be top scorer in europe even before the season started

:p
