Because the expert Kit Makers use lots of effects for the textures. Like, blending modes, duplicates, contrast, brightness, curves, levels, etc.

I just make the texture transparent and playa round with the curves and brightness.

See ya!

Best thing to do Sir_McLiga in my opinion is to duplicate your texture layer and try the different belnd modes, also play about with the opacity of the layer. It's really trial and error but well worth having a play with.

well the quickest way man is to duplicate your texture layer......put it above your original texture in the layer order .....set the new one to "SCREEN".....the original at "MULTIPLY"....and with the new screen texture .....go to lightness and contrast and just make the texture increasingly darker until you get the effect you like.........for darker kits the new screened layer wont be as dark as for a lighter kit ......this will get you the effect you want ............:D
