kluivert?

He hasn't retired. He hasn't been called up for the coming two WC qualifiers. We've already got four strikers in the team; two world class (Makaay, Van Nistelrooij) and two a bit below that level (Kuijt, Van Hooijdonk).

Me too. But Kluivert had a desastrous season last year, while Makaay has scored loads of goals wherever he played. Problem with Makaay is that he doesn't participate in the game for 89mins but in those other 2 mins he always scores a goal, or more. Makaay is a striker not really suited for the dutch way of playing football.

I rate Kluivert so highly and have always been a fan of him.

It's a shame he didnt play any part in Euro 2004 as he always steps up on the big stage for Holland.

It's a shame he doesnt work well with Van Nistelrooy who is now the Dutch number 1 striker.

I think Kluivert should still be in the international fold though.

Not only is he doing well in goal scoring matters, but also has a great attitude on the pitch working for others.

If the Dutch have a couple of disapointing results and Paddy keeps it up at Newcastle then probably get his chance.

I'm sure Kluivert will be called up again. He just needs to show he's found his form again. He's doing that at the moment, I'm confident he'll be back after coming two games.

Van Basten doesn't like Makaay, so Kluivert might get the nod before him. But than again, there are 3 other strikers in front of him right now.

Kuijt is still far below than Kluivert. He'll be with the dutch NT soon. He's regaining his form with Newcastle and scoring goals like he used to.

From what I've heard during Euro, Kluivert had told Advocaat that it's either him or Ruud.Appearently he doesn't wanna team up with pretty much anyone in the Holland NT.And also he is below his usual level lately.I've been wanting him to leave Barca.Enough said.

Oh and, seeing Makaay play, he is so much better than Kluivert.
The two cannot be compared.Makaay is a goal machine, Kluivert turned into a bench warmer with an attitude problem.

He had a horrible year (season really) before EURO and Advocaat opted (naturally) for Ruud. Later there was a team meetings after the Germany match about what system they should play: Cocu, Frank de Boer and Ruud were there. Kluivert complained later that day that he wanted be part of the meeting, despite the fact that he was 4th option striker. Some people joked, "Well, I bet Hasselbaink wanted to be at that meeting too."

It's not that he has a personal beef with Ruud but whenever they play, they're awful. And they've been relentlessly criticized for 2 years. So it's not fun for him especially when he's often blamed since Ruud is considered better than him.

As for Makaay being better than Kluivert, I was watching the Holland vs. Yugoslavia game a few weeks ago. People tend to have short memories. Right now, Makaay's in the form of his life. But since he moved to Spain at an early stage (he was this little kid at Vitesse) he hasn't developed as the typical Dutch striker.

I agree with the attitude problem, though. Few years back he killed someone while racing his Ferrari in Amsterdam. In Portugal, he borrowed someone's sports car and raced again.

He's been playing like that for years. He was topscorer in the Spanish league, then he scored 30+ goals in his first season with Bayern. This is his normal form.
I agree he's not the right striker for Holland though.

i think ruud is much better than kluivert

but i thinnk the best combination would be to have both ruud and kluivert on the pitch at the same time.

because the 4-3-2-1 formation didn't work too well because the wingers weren't giving crosses in to ruud

I'm starting to get a little pissed of with the disrespect Barca fans are showing towards Patrick Kluivert. He's had his problems with his attitude and his form, but you lot seem to forget that he's also been really great for you guys.

The story you're talking about is totally out of it's context. And discussing wether Makaay or Kluivert is the better player is a waste of time, because they're completely different forwards. Kluivert is much more a creator than an out and out goalscorer like Makaay.

Don't mind them. Some Barca are like spoiled little brats. Kluivert scored about 102 goals and scored more goals than Saviola in 3 out of 4 seasons.

I hope the dutchman will not bring him no more in the NT. he is not worthy anymore.
Makaay for Holland.
