L1 close dribble - did you guys know this??

hey guys..
now that ive got we6fe+rhapsodies patch, ive been playing the game to death, and its been amazing...

now i heard that the L1 close dribble move has come back... ie. when you hold L1 while using the stick or pad, the player has more control and is less likely to be disposessed. Apparently they took this move out for pes2.

ok.. ive tried it.. and im talking about training here... and its exactly the same as WITHOUT the L1 being pressed.... that led me to assume that it was all a load of ****....

Well then i tried something else... and please excuse me if you guys already knew this.. but knowbody here has explained this to me...

ok.. in training... i basically ran up field(using the directional analogue stick, ie. i dont use the pad for movement).... then i let go of the stick... and you know how once you let go of the directional stick, the player doesnt quite stop but does this really slow thunderbirds movement...ie. slow steps in the direction they were originally running....
now if you press R1 while doing this, you will step on the ball and perform a sudden stop......
BUT... if you PRESS and HOLD the L1 Button, then immediately use the stick for movement, you will have this weird power of the ball just sticking to your feet... making it very hard for the defender to get the ball of you... its AMAZING... but it only lasts a certain time...

i looked at the tutorial at training.. and it shows a move for guarding the ball, but by simply using just the joystick... i think kcet made a mistake in the tutorial.... the player is supposed to first let go of the movement stick or pad just after running, hold the L1 then they can guard the ball by moveing around...

what do you guys think... did you guys know this..

currently im mucking around in training trying to pull of the berkhamp move.... you know the one he uses (the decieving trap) to score that great goal against newcastle. Thats cause ive seen it about 3 times in the game.. the computer has done this against me... and ive thought.. did i just see what i thought i saw... the 3rd time confirmed it for me..
i know that if youre about to recieve a long pass, and you let go of the stick and just press R1, the player doesnt trap it, but chests the ball up above his head... it may have something to do with this.. i dont know...

cheers,
steve

Good info . . . more dribbling tips needed :)

This is great info. I didn't know about this move and can't wait to try it tonight when I get home.

Does anyone know of a definitive "WE6(FE) dribbling guide"? That seems like it would be something that would be quite helpful for those of us novices who are constantly losing possession (esp. on breakaways :( ). I had found some excellent discussions on WE6 dribbling on these forums and have saved them as text files, but I know there are still a whole load of moves that I don't know of.

I know I'm pathetic, but when I'm on a counterattack and have 1 defender to beat, I really don't know what to do to get around him (which is probably why most of my goals come on crosses into the box from the corners :)).

Any more dribbling/ball control tips out there? Like things that aren't covered in the tutorial? For example, from reading these forums I now know that using the shot+cancel is a great way to fake out a defender, but I need _way_ more practice before I can execute that move in a game :)

Well, the close control that you got when you held the L1 button while dribbling, yeah that is what people have been talking about, calling it the L1 dribble. And i think you meant L1 put you at a stop (as R1 would have bulled you forward, right?)

Here is a basic guideline for dribbling.

-move with the Dpad or stick, normal dribble (what more can I say?)
-R1 full out pace dribbling, have some control over the ball, not as much as a normal dribble but when you want to breese past someone, this is the dribble to use.
-R2 dribble, more of a stride dribble. player plays the ball further out than the R1 dribble, not as much control over the ball also, so use when not in tight spaces.
-L1 dribble, for close control (and quick) control when you have someone on your back.
-R1+R2+change in direction, this is an awesome dribble. Plays the ball way infront of you to chase it down. Good for going past defenders also.

The trick with dribbling is to vary your speeds. No matter how fast you are going, if you stay at that speed, the defender will easily read you and cut/pick you off. For example, you can use an R1 defender runs up, L1 to slow you down, and cut inside him, then an R1+R2+change in direction, to leave him in the dust really. When you change direction wisely it throws the defenders off. For example, how many times have you been running full blast on a counter attack only to find the defender time you and step up to swipe the ball away :rockman: (everyone raises their hand). What I've tried to do is to sprint in bursts now. Like I'll use the R1 sprint then when the player catches up, I don't sprint...I just go normal, see what the defence is playing, then sprint again. Then go to the normal dribble, when you go back to the normal dribble, and the defender bites, it's easier to do a move (whether the feint shot or shimmy or whatever) to get passed the defender. If you just go full blast, defender will read you like a book and end your attack (especially the good ones).

All in all, change in speed and direction is how to use the dribbling effectively.

this l1 close dribble is new to me! i have to go try it.

what i like to do when going through the last 1 or 2 defenders is this: i play using the Dpad .. as im dribbling up to a defender, i let go of the dpad and let the player "coast" in .. he will dribble the ball and when you let go of the dpad he will decelerate.. while decelerating, i wait until the defender commits and then cut up or down on the dpad and then again quickly towards the goal. with ronaldo i can leave most defenders this way. note, if the defender will not commit, i slightly tap the dpad to dribble/play the ball a little until he does, then cut up or down. try this with a good dribbler with good body balance and response and you will get a lot more goals in a 1v1 situation.

another 1v1 technique is to slowly dribbe towards the defender, then turn so your back is to him and when he comes up to you your player should lean back into the defender to protect the ball, then tap up or down and towards the goal to shake the defender. this is not as effective depending on the players BUT i suspect that if used in conjunction with the L1 close dribble, this technique would be quite useful.

here is a post i found on another forum, ie GameFAQs, by a guy named proxi... thanks to this guy for this guide on dribbling..

THIS FACT JUST ABOUT COVER EVERYTHING ABOUT DRIBBLING IN THIS GAMEbefore i explain the different dribbling styles take not: 1st touch=ur 1st touch of the ball when another player passes it to you or ur 1st touch on a loose ball!_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _(L1)-use L1 in tight spaces i.e when ur surrounded with at least 2 or 3 players or when u want to hold other players off, in other words the L1 button allows u to turn quicker with more control and its harder for u to be lose the ball when challenged and good for 1st touches to get the ball undercontroluse this if you want total control before you pass or shoot it makes passing, shooting more accurate! and more responsive i.e quicker._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _(R2)-this tries to mimic the jogging pace at which a players dribbles the ball, its very useful to flick the ball past defenders who are charging directly into u: e.gur going one direction holding the L1 a defender right infront of you and tries to tackle you with the X tackle, before he makes the challenge quickly change from L1 to R2 in a angled direction away from the defender this will flicked the ball towards that direction, then quickly change from R2 to R1 and you would be sprinting away.( good with fast pacy players e.g henry,davids etc...)you could also use the this for first touches into space:1st touch R2 in to space then hold R1._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _(R1)-this is the spriting pace at which a player can dribble, use this if you have yards of space ahead of you to attack. press R1 twice in the direction ur moving in makes acceleration quicker then just holding the R1.you can also use the R1 for 1st touches to spin a defender or marker which is very use full.while dribbling with the R1 tap the direction ur moving in twice each interval between u touch the ball, this makes the ball travel even further away from u i.e heavier touches on the ball while dribbling, so ur player dribbles faster then just holding the usual R1, so gets u from point A to B even faster, only dribble like this if u have yards of space a head of you to attack._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _(R1)+(R2)-another dribble is holding the R1 and R2 together, while dribbling like this when u change directions holding these 2 buttons ur player would knock the ball at least 8 yards in front of you, therefore you would likely just give the ball away if there is an opposition with in 15 yards of you, so i recommend using this if ur breaking and past the last defender by the halfway line and just got the goal to sprint to! note: if ur just dribbling in a straight line you would be dribbling at the same pace as with the R1

hey great mini faq!I was hoping i could get your advice/help on something. i seem to have a lot of problem getting past a defender who is coming directly at me in a one-on-one situation. its very frustrating especially when i'm controlling a talented attacker.could you tell me the easiest and/or most effective dribble technique to get past a defender?thanks for your help.

my advice is read my facts properly!!! thats all!!! nah joke lol when a defender approches u head on, u can simply turn left or right with ur d-pad, then press forward with ur d-pad and sprint away quickly with R1, if you press and hold L1 to do the turning with the d-pad the player turns more quickly(more control over the ball)turn just before the defender makes the challenge, its that easy!!!but remember this wouldn't work with out timeing!!! so practice, practice makes perfect!

From: ProXI | Posted: 1/15/2003 12:20:02 AM | Message Detail

anyway if u can't get the timing right you can just turn away from the defender and go round in circles, therfor yo would be taking the defender on a mary go round, i.e i like to call this shielding the ball!!! try it, its fun but feels stupid if u do it all the time and its very effective against ur mates, cos they get annoyed easily and can't take it! but don't over do it cos u might mess up and give the ball away and thats suicide while doing it with ur gk or in ur own penalty box!!!

Thanks proXI..very useful mini FAQ..ranikiru.. try the 45 degree move !!When you are in one-to-one situation, just move toward the defender in a straight line (don’t use any dashing buttons, just use the directional ones) when you get closer to the defender, he will try to intersect the ball, just before that, and in the right timing try to past him with a 45 degree move, only after that you use the dashing buttons, if you are away from the goal.Sometimes when the defender slides while doing this move you will fail to past him even if your timing was perfect.I used to use R2 for this move in PES2, but you can rarely, come up with a successful one to past the defenders in WE6 FE. That's the way I used to past defenders in one-to-one situation, but remember, timing is the most important factor for a success one.

for the BK Feint, u dont have to hold R2.U can still do it while pressing the d-pad only
