Lack of Goalie Ruining My Season

Currently in year 2 of a season with A.C Milan on the iPad 12' edition. I sold my starting goalie during season 1 after getting a good offer. Apparently my backup goalie's contract was set to expire as I began season 2 with zero goalies.

I attempted to sign a goalie before the season started with absolutely no luck. Literally I could not sign one. I find the process of obtaining players to be pretty confusing to be honest on the iPad edition but I believe I explored all options and simply could not get a goalie. Finally I sent out a scout however as you know the process does not happen immediately. I received a message that my scout has returned after looking for a goalie but I'm still waiting for him to officially report back so that I can sign him and use him. Not only is this incredibly frustrating but it's forced me to forfeit all of my friendly's and at this point the first six games in Serie A.

Am I missing something here? How is it possible that I can't sign a goalie unless I use a scout and by doing so need to start my season in a serious hole? Can someone clear this up for me?

Yes you are... a goalie. Why would you sell one of your GKs and then field a team with only one GK for the rest of the season? No team would ever do that. And I've had my GK carded and booted out of at least one game. What was your backup plan in case that ever happened?

Anyway, your career is kaputnik for all intents and purposes, and surely you have no plans to continue playing under those circumstances. So start over, hang onto your GKs (both of them) and take it from there. You'll be able to sign other GKs at some point, sounds like your career save was simply stuck in Twilight Zone mode or something.

You are right. It was a risky move from the start. In my small defense, this is my first time playing Fifa after stepping away for years. Not an excuse but I am a little rusty.

Even with that established, I still don't understand why I'm forced to forfeit so many games and wait this long to obtain a goalie. Not sure if it's different on other platforms but I find the whole experience of obtaining players for the iPad edition of Fifa 12' to be pretty terrible. I should have the option to obtain a goalie, no matter how bad, so I can at least field a team immediately.

My career is not 'kaptunik'. I'm pushing forward. It will be fun to work myself out of a whole to be honest. I'll obtain a goalie soon enough via scouting. But then I'll be forced to send him out once again to obtain a backup in due time. Just really annoying.

I don't play career mode, but aren't there times you can and can't obtain players during the season? Are you allowed to sign anyone at any time, or do you have to wait for transfer window dates etc?

In career mode you have to wait for the transfer window. The problem is even during said time it's very difficult to add players. Especially goalies. I tried my best to add a goalie and simply could not. My last resort was sending out a scout which would be fine except you are forced to continue on with your schedule as you wait for the scout to return and by doing so you must forfeit. It's just a mess really.

Sounds like an unforseen career mode programming shortcoming. When these devs design these games, it's pretty tough to anticipate every and any situation that might happen in-game. And your situation is kind of different and rather extreme if you think about it.

While I was certainly at fault for entering a season with no goalies on board, I do think the blame lies more with the devs. It's simply too complicated and difficult to add players. I should be able to add a crappy goalie if necessary.
