Legends who never played for the WC..

Funky--K

Starting XI
Soviet Union's Eduard Streltsov

Played in the 50's and was a brilliant player, score buttloads of goals for Torpedo Moscow and was decisive to qualify Soviet Union to the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. He also lead the national team to an Olimpic gold medal in the 1956 Olimpics.

He never got to play for the CCCP in the World Cup because in 1958 he was ordered to play in the Soviet Championship either for Soviet Army's CSKA or KGB's Dynamo Moscow and he refused... So the government got him arrested with false accusations of rape...

For what I've heard and read, he could had been bigger then Pelé, he was faster, better dribbler and scored more goals... If he had played in 1958, he would have outshined Pelé and the Soviet Union would have most likely had become World Champion. The whole football history would have been different, imagine a world where Brazil would had never become a football power...

You can read about him here

"A sign of how valuable he was to his national team's success can be found by comparing the times they played Sweden with and without him. With Streltsov, they cruised to a 6-0 thrashing against them, but in the World Cup (still with Yashin) they lost 2-0."
