lets set the record straight and have some sense here about fifa 06

Bought Fifa 06 the other day after owning WE9 for a good few months.

My initial reaction to FiFa where as always a good one. But as always faults tend to develop and things become less convincing the more and more you play. Some of the rubbish i have read around here about some of the elements of gameplay that supposedly suck on we9 like the ball physics are like a hockey puck (!)? I mean what the hell is that all about? All i can say is that guy can't have played WE9 or any of the series for that matter because fifa 06 physics are more akin to what he describes. The ball moves across the ground like major G forces have gripped it to the soil.

In terms of gameplay i've started to discover the age old problems Fifa ALWAYS has year in year out. The gameplay is just too stiff and constrictive. I mean when the cpu has the ball his players move around like lightening, they make runs, they support. Your team doesnt even cover at the back. I read on the review on this games homepage about the improvement of off the ball running. Well i am sorry but what version of this game did you attain and can i have it as i seem to have got a demo unfinished version. Your players have NO INTELLIGENCE. They dont make smart runs, mostly its up to you to make them run by pressing L1 (depending on controller setup) and as the computer plays such a high line, you can either send your man clean through or get him caught offside, its a bit ridiculous. And while im on the point of going clean through, wheres the pace? Year upon year upon year upon year upon year, EA never get this right, ever. How come a Cisse for Liverpool i cannot out run Breen of Sunderland in a one and one race over distance? Its bloody infuriating. I have just this minute switched off fifa after playing on world class Liverpool vs Sunderland and heres what i noticed was wrong:

1. The cpu players can keep the ball like zico while your players trudge around the pitch seemingly devoid of energy.

2. At one point the Sunderland backline (yes the Sunderland that are currently in the bottom three of the prem) where zipping the ball across their backline and too their defensive midfielder with a series of one touch backheels and flicks. (!)

3. My players DONT move off the ball intelligently, YOU have to set them moving with the press of L1.

4. I lost count of how many times Cisse was beaten to the ball over equal distance in a race by far from superior players. Cisse is one of the fastest players in the premiership.

I dont mind some of the scripting with the keepers, i love the licenses and balls, the stadiums are nice and the pitch is just perfectly sized and the goalkeepers are spot on. But when you cant drill a ball across field without it looking like a weird lob on a wire you have to ask questions.

Which is why the bullcrap coming out of some people about we9 just baffles me and doesnt wash. Fair enough i know WE9 isnt perfect. I know the keepers could still be improved and maybe the pitch sizes increased and apart from licenses maybe a few more tricks for the players, but c'mon at least i can,:

1. Beat a player for pace.

2. Switch play across field with a long or drilled ball.

3. Slow the game down and not be worried that the opposition will become superhuman.

4. My players will move and make runs and create space. Will cover and automatically stick their legs out to block shots.

5. That i can lob or knock a long ball into space without it being in an arc trajectory.

I just wish sometimes EA would just work on those few key areas. I mean its little to ask isnt it? I mean cant they see it? cant you see whats wrong with it? I hope people wake up and smell the coffee and stop talking bull.

I don't deny that WE has better gameplay than Fifa but your comments on Fifa 06 is way off. Fifa 06 is the best iteration of the Fifa series and most of your remarks are unfair and biased. EA is moving in the right direction and in no time they should be able to catch up with Konami in the gameplay department.

There are flaws in Fifa 06 but that does not make it unplayable or not fun. Can you warrant that there weren't any flaws in WE/PES or in fact in all games?

You're right. They can't do it themselves so they will just copy PES/WE. LOL, just like how thay already copied the button config this year. :boohoo: EA is a sad bunch of fuggers. If you can't beat them..............copy them.

I dont think Konami will be bothered - they will probably be laughing their asses off after seeing Fifa 06 , I know i was.

Soccerfan,

believe me im not biased in the slightest. When may i ask will EA catch up with konami? Its taken them nigh on several years to get this far with the same flaws.

Im not saying fifa is a terrible game because there is likeable assets but the gameplay is just not up to scratch in this day and ages game consoles.

The gameplay reminds me of the euro 2000 edition fifa game, its almost completely the same with the weird lobs and floaty shots, it just has more animations and improved graphics.

i live in hope for a good fifa game, but in all honesty EA dont need to improve it. Sales put paid to that because they know they will shift millions of copies worldwide every year no matter how improved the gameplay is.

I forgot. fifa 98 is. No it should be the WE/PES series.

You won't find my statement hilarious if that happens.

Please name me a game that is perfect from day one.

Most reviews of PES5 (most mags give it 10/10) say it is perfect. So please fly away Fifa fanboy - you are in the minority with your "opinion".

Reviewers are human and humans have personal preferences. How can a game be perfect if one or more areas do not warrant a perfect score. No game is perfect. No throw such crap please.

They can't do it themselves so they will just copy PES/WE

I don't find anything wrong in this. The Japanese did that after the war and look what happen. They gave you WE/PES which most of you enjoy. My view is absorbed the best and discard the worst.

By the way, I am too old and not that obsessed to be a fanboy. I am still waiting for an answer to my question on a game without flaws when it hits the shelf.

PES5's been overrated by reviewers, certainly. PES does seem to have some glaring omissions, this year. Particularly when it comes to set peices. Centre backs don't give you the right support in corner kicks. They hang back.

Keepers seem schizophrenic, at times. They'll deal with deflected shots with no trouble but any free kick and they'll often criminally stand behind their wall. Chris Kirkland stylee.

That said, I still prefer it to FIFA. Granted, I've not played FIFA 06 and, from what I've read, it's a step in the right direction. However, I've also heard about the wild efforts somehow being given as goals. A criminal glitch for any football game.

yea in PES5 the free kicks are easier to score. But that means you certainly dont want to give away a free kick around the box. Escpecially when yo play againt a human. This makes it more exciting and forces you to defend less rough in front of the goal.
In pes4 i didnt worry at all when i gave away a free kick, because 90% of the times the opponent missed it. :)

Starting XI
You need to adjust your attack level manually before you take the kick and wait a few secs for the defenders to come up.

It does work, i've scored quite a few corners with center-backs now.

i own fifa 2006 and pes 5 and i can say from an experiance that when the fifa demo came out i said it's a good game and i think i will buy it couse i stoped buying fifa since 2003 anyway i was happy with fifa until the pes demo came out i thought oh my good what a game it has some flows but you can live with them i will adress some of it:
1 - fifa 2006 passing system is a crap compared to pes 5 although pes5 passing aren't perfect but it's little less than that i would say it's good
2 - fifa shooting system is a crap as well pes have more in it
3 - changing the formation and tactics in pes is far better than fifa you can vary your tactics depending on your oponent game style not like fifa i play it with 4-2-4 and i rock all the boats
that is some few things that pes is better than fifa in the onllly things fifa are better at is liscences and more leagues and menu interface only those on the expense of gameplay i can sacrifice all those for a less scripted (i wouldn't say non scripted if i am to be resonable)more free flow gaming like pes and i think every body here agrees with me that the gameplay is the most important thing in soccer games i mean for god's sake i buy a football game to play a football game not to listen to soundtracks and look at menu's am i right guy's yes pes can be still worked but not like fifa couse in konami thay will develop and build on but in ea thay have to start all over again and change that selly gameplay and graphics engine and that's the bottom line
