You open up the Gradient Editor. Then do what the pic says.

Then drag the gradient over a layer in the apropriate position.

What I do is make a whole new layer over the pic in the backround I make the gradient on that and then lower the opacity.

Yeah, but I thought he just meant how to make a gradient that involves transparent colors.

What I do is fill a new layer with color, and then erase what I don't want with a low opacity, soft brush to make it smooth.

Well I wasn't really sure what he meant in the first place :crazyboy: but you know I tried to help.

I have another question.
If you have a photo with a person in it and you want to get rid of all the background images, you use the magic wand tool.

but what do you do if the selects part of the subject because the colours are similar, do you just edit it by hand

yes what i do is zoom very closely and choose the eraser tool and do it that way

it may take time but the results are good!

1. No, you don't use the magic wand tool, lol:p

2. There are different ways to do this. You could use the eraser tools which does work but is a bit unprofessional. You could use the pen tool which can be a bit of a pain the ass if the subject has a lot irregular curves and small bits. You could also go into Quick Mask mode, use the brush or for smaller objects (such as hair, leaves, grass) you could use the extract tool.
