well my opinion is:
Xzibit & Eminem - nice, but not in the caliber of Dre & Snoop...
- Eminem makes good rap but he's a bit of a gimik
Metalica - once again, like U2, didn't make anithing segnificent in the last years
Godsmack, AperfectCircle - ???
Korn - excellent video clips - too noisy music...
have you ever listen to the bands I've told you about?
(counting crows, Radiohead, Jewel, Cave etc.)?
Eminem: I used to like him alot before, but now i've realized how much of a psycho he is! LOL
Korn: Not the best band in the world, but i have Issues and Follow the Leader which has some pretty good songs
APerfectCircle: Is a rock band (not to heavy though) who have only made one album which is ok
Godsmack: One of the newer bands who actually have a good sound, where it's not like Limp or Korn, but actually resembles more "real" rock with heavy riffs and wicked solos
Metalllica: You say they haven't put out anything significant the last couple of years, well let's try a recap of their career so far:
1983 Kill 'em All :
Their debut album, which doesn't resemble anything they've made after that, but has today a sort of "cult! status amongst Met fans, and is considered one of the best and mose influental speed metal albukms ever
1984 Ride the Lightning:
An album that has some great songs like Fade to Black (I LOVE THAT SONG), Creeping Death and Call of the Kthulu. This was an album that showed how promising Metallica looked, and kinda gave a preview of what they had to offer
1986 Master of Puppets:
Metallicas bit brakethrough that sold a couple of million copies back then, which was pretty much back then for a Metal band, and presented their dynamic sound to a bigger part of the world, and gave them even more fans.
1988 ...And Justice for All:
Another good album that was also a good succes, with songs like One (another great song), Harvester of Sorrow and Blackened. The only glitch is that the bass is really weak on this album, which is something many fans are complaining over today
1991 "Black Album":
Metallica's most popular album which sold around 12 million copies back then, and has sold around 20 uptil this day! Song's like Enter Sandman, Sad But True and Wherever i May Roam showed the band from a more mainstream approach, but still remained their dynamic style, which is probably why the album was so succesful. Also a song like Nothing Else Matters, showed the band having the ability to make a song like very few Metal ba nds(or none at all) could have done at that time.
1996 Load:
This album hasn't even sold half as much as Black Album did, and is considered by many bands as a bit "selloutish". But to me, it is a great album, which showed the band once again reinventing themselves by taking a few blues and country elements into their music in songs like Bleeding Me and especially Mama Said.
1997 ReLoad:
The second part of what was supposd to make a 2cd album together with Load, showed the band playing pretty much the same style, but a bit different sound to it, with songs like Fuel, and Better Then You (which won them a Grammy for best Hard-Rock song). A pretty good album, but to me Load has better songs in Until It Sleeps, Hero of the Day, Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn, Mama Said and King Nothing.
1998 Garage Inc.:
An album where Metallica covers several favorites of their "heroes", the bands and artist who isnpired them and got them in this bussines i nthe first place.
1999 S&M:
An album that shows Metallica teaming up with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Michael Kamen). This was an album that the band was expecting to be a big flop. But nevertheless sold around 3 million copies i nthe US alone, and saw the band making more S&M concerts in London, Berlin, Barcelona and recently they held a S&M concert in New York, in memory of the victims on September 11th 2001
So you see man, i don't think that Metallica hasn't put anything un-significant, although none of the recent albums have sold as much as the Black Album, but lets face it, most of the people who bought Black Album were probably people who did it cause Metallica was a pretty big thing back in 1991-1992, and so they probably wanted to be "cool"
LOL
