Liverpool FC on the verge of signing Luis Figo

Luis Figo's agent has indicated that his client has agreed a deal to move to Liverpool next term.

The Portuguese winger has attracted widespread interest ever since it emerged that Real Madrid may be prepared to move him out of the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Newcastle tried and failed with a move for the winger, while Valencia and Galatasaray were also said to be in the frame.

Liverpool emerged as likely bidders recently and the 32-year-old indicated to his agent that he would be prepared to join the UEFA Champions League winners.

An accord is believed to have been struck between player and club, but it has emerged that Real are digging their heels in and may demand a fee for his sale.

Liverpool are not prepared to pay a transfer fee on top of the player's wages and Figo is set to meet Real president Florentino Perez in a bid to smooth his passage to Anfield.

"An accord exists between Liverpool and Luis over the financing of the move," said Figo's agent Luis Douens. "Luis wants to play in England and Liverpool is a great club."

It would appear that Real will have to shift their stance if Figo is to become a Red.

"The decision rests on Real," added Douens. "If they want money for the transfer then I believe it will be hard."

Real sporting director Arrigoi Sacchi has suggested the final decision will lie with Perez.

"The subject of Figo is a question for Florentino," said Sacchi. "The final decision will be with the president."

as much as I dislike the scousers it's a good club for him to join for his final 2 or 3 years.

He'll keep playing first team football and CL football in a good team that does need him.

He still has a lot of good football in him and he will adapt to the EPL.

Just hope he doesn't play every match because there are way too many matches for english teams and he has got to be fit and rested if we are to stand a chance in the World Cup 2006.

Figo won't be getting in first 11 as often as he'd wish.

of course not there are much better players in front of him in the picking line like the legendary Harry Kewell.

Figo had a verbal agreement with Madrid so he wouldn't need a fee to go away, or so I was told... still, fact is Madrid is wanting 2M, which is not all that much, but it could pay his wages for a good while...
He'd be a good addition to the squad, not sure how well he'd adapt to the EPL...

I hope this goes through for him, he was obviously not welcome at Real Madrid anymore. I hope he does well if/when it happens.
