Rafa should have made his team sit back tonight to make sure we didn't get the away goal don't you think? I'm sure he has more idea than me but once we scored, Liverpool needed to chase the game to get their second goal, and that left so much space to exploit. Remember how we have played against an 11 man defence every time this season? Every time was a frustrating disaster for us.

I love the gung ho attitude from Liverpool, but I think that it's most important not to let in any away goals. That must be the priority surely. I was surprised by Rafa's game plan to be honest.

I think perhaps Rafa was expecting the same shoddy Chelsea side from earlier in the season. That side does not exist any more. We have our mojo back.

See ya at the Bridge fellas (Y)

Don't complain Liverpool many times this season get completly dominated or should lose/tie then pull **** out their ass last second to win

Doesnt take away from the fact Villa looks completely useless and uncapable of winning at the moment, which was my point if you hadnt noticed.

Ah well, seeing how well you played, if we didn't go forward we'd risk losing 3-0... Still, well done and congratulations.

That's one way of looking at it. At the same time, we're playing at home and it's a advantage we must take. I wouldnt say sitting back and settling for a draw is a smart move to do having to play Chelsea on the Bridge, a place where in the last 3 ties, we never won.

Of course we went too gung-ho and our midfield got owned, Lucas losing the ball a couple of times - we should've been more careful and calm after we got the goal we needed. Pool really missed Mascherano and we didnt have an answer for your midfield, which was crucial in your victory.

That and our marking which was abysmal today. Liverpool arent a side that can be written off like that but the tie is yours to take, i would be surprised if we managed a two-nil at the Bridge, but anyway, i will be behind the team.

Only a crazy person would write off Liverpool even after losing like they did tonight. They are a threat always, and Chelsea know that.

I guess that whatever game plan you go into a game with, success simply depends on how the other team adapt to that gameplan, and how well (or badly) one or the other teams play. Its a hard one for sure to know exactly what to do. I just think that to conceed a goal at home in the CL can be disasterous. To conceed three at home is just unthinkable really.

Still, its a whole new game at the Bridge, and you can be sure that Chelsea will not be over confident when the time comes. We know Liverpool too well for that.

What all of us destroyed the bar? All 11,000 of us? Don't be so stupid. You are generalising and that never works. I had a bag of **** thrown at me at the Camp Nou, but I don't blame every Barca fan for it. Grow up.

A part of me wants to write you off because you need 3 goals at the Bridge in order to have a chance. But had you told me that we'd score 3 at Anfield I'd have laughed, so it's definitely still unsettled. You also have Benayoun. Next match will be amazing.

newbie original

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
Reasons for our defeat, inorder of importance:

1. Rafa came out and made derogatory comments about Sir Alex Ferguson: Everytime Rafa says something negative about SAF, we lose or suffer through a bad result. EVERYTIME!!! He frustrates me so much when he starts running his mouth for no damn reason. It's a curse and RAFA NEEDS TO LEARN TO KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT!!!

2. Suspension of Javier Mascherano: As soon as he picked up the yellow against Real, I knew we were going to be in all kinds of trouble. I thought that it was not a good decision by the referee(in that game). People say Liverpool is nothing without Gerrard and Torres....well, Liverpool's offense is nothing without Gerrard and Torres. Liverpool's defense is nothing without Mascherano and Xabi Alonso. Lucas is improving but he's not yet at the level of Mascherano. The result of his absence is that our midfield lost its shape. Torres was all by himself up front and Gerrard was helping out on defense because Skrtel and Carragher simply cannot function without Mascherano helping them out.

Every time our defense moved the ball out of our half, our midfield was unable to gain possession because they were so far back(helping out the defense) that large gaps opened up between Torres and the midfield. The ball just kept coming back into our half and eventually into Reina's penalty box. We just couldn't gain, and keep, possession like we usually do. Xabi Alonso moves up the field from time to time, but Mascherano's only task is to help the two center backs. Without him, they're below par.

3. PART 1 --> Steven Gerrard was NOT 100%: He picked up a knock against Fulham on the weekend and was rushed back. Benitez will claim that he was fully fit, but it was plainly evident that he wasn't. Unlike the "BIG" clubs, Liverpool does NOT have much depth. I knew we were going to have trouble with him hobbling around. IF Benitez knew the full extent of Gerrard's injury, it would have been wiser to sit back and defend, like Pete said in one of the above posts. There isn't anyone to step in and replace Gerrard. That is one thing that prevents us from competing with the big clubs...we are just too predictable.

3. PART II --> Steven Gerrard picked up an injury during this game against Chelsea: He has been sent for scans today and it is almost certain that he won't play against Blackburn in what is now the most important game of our season. He wasn't as effective as possible without Mascherano and the few opportunities he might have had were wasted because he couldn't move up the field to support Torres. Ryan Babel and Yossi Bennayoun simply need Gerrard to be out there or else they look mediocre.....infact you can say that same about Riera and Dossena. IF we had Mascherano, and Gerrard was injured, we wouldn't have scored but we wouldn't have been torn apart for 3 goals.

4. Chelsea took full advantage of #2 and #3 above: It's one thing for a team to have an advantage, but it's a totally different thing for them to take advantage of it. Chelsea controlled the midfield and created gaps all over the pitch. There may not be another team in the Premiership that can exploit an opponent's weakness like Chelsea can. You can say what you want about the coach, but in my opinion the Chelsea players should be given all the credit for this. They put us to the sword. They won't need John Terry for the next game..this tie is over. Well done to Chelsea. Good luck in the SF.

5. The Quarter-Final Draw: I have ZERO belief in us against an English team, in the Champions League. I'd have preferred Barcelona than any of the English sides.

Humble pie tastes bad doesn't it?

We now face a knockout game against Blackburn....Sam Allardyce's Blackburn. This game will make or break our season. It is a massive massive game for us. Our season is hanging in the balance. We are walking a very fine line right now.

Realistically, we're done.

I'd suggest bringing in a few subs(especially Shifty Agger, who's back from injury) and resting some of the regulars for the League.
