Long ball tactics

I'm enjoying this game. Definately my favourite Fifa game yet (can never get used to PES, not because it's not a better game but because it doesn't have my beloved Highbury which I can see my seat and my virtual me looking like a crazed pixelated loony).

I've recreated several styles of play, including a fluent passing game on the deck, crossing the ball in various styles, and managing to take successful shots from long range, but the one thing I can't seem to get going is a good long ball game. (I've been going to the Arsenal since the 80's and would like to see if it's possible to recreate the boring game of old).

So: can anyone post some tips on getting a good long ball game working in Fifa 2005.

Unfortunately ive tried doin that too. Tried playing like boring old liverpool under the GH regime but it doesnt work. Im stuck to using 1 player to run circles around the opponents. :kader:

I've managed to get the game working fine apart from the long ball. For me though, this is a big deal though as it rules out a lot of counter attacking play.

I'm sure it can be done. The ball physics are there, I think it's a case of tweaking the formation, players and style of play, finding some sweet spots to pass from, and putting the correct power on the ball.

I'm going to keep trying different combinations against some vertically challenged opposition and report back if I get any success. Then, I'm sure it can be put into practice against stronger defences.

U need to use OTB and move ur strikers into the gaps...I am very effective using the long ball.

However, I am able ot move the ball so quickly on the floor....that longball isn't really necessary unless of course ur worried about using up the stamina of the midfielders.

You can try using the manual long ball to play the ball into space. I love the manual crossing, you control how much power etc and sometimes the AI defenders get caught out of position.

Thanks guys. Never thought of using OTB, so i'm going to give that a go. I love the manual crossing system too. It's the most improved thing about the game over the last couple of years. I'm sure when I work out a good position and stregnth for the pass it's going to prove great.
