I didn't even realize the show was still on the air. To be honest the show hit its peak in the episode where the Simpson's go to New York. Homer picking Crab Juice over Mountain Dew had to be one of the funniest things I will ever see in my life.

Best episode ever was when Homer joined that Naval Reserve, that Soviet Union sequence was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV.

Utter, utter brilliance. When the grass rolled back and wall popped up, complete with guards, with 'New Berlin' written on it. Fantastic.

Simpsons hit it's peak way before that. Best episode was the Monorail. It jumped the shark with Homer in Space. That was when we started to see all the hallmarks of why the Simpsons sucks now: utterly unbelievable plot, unfunny gags, stupid movie rip-offs (in this case The Right Stuff), and throwaway guest appearances, and then nothing has changed and we're back to square one even after homer WAS A FREAKING ASTRONAUT.

and......

Marge: "Bart, how's your father doing?"

Bart: *looks outside*

Homer: *running at pit with umbrella, screams....* "AAAAAAAAAAHHH"...*hits the pit, umbrella opens, homer falls*

Yup, back when it just started. He also worked for SNL..

simpsons is still cool :(

i mean, the episodes arent as good as they were in their prime, but they all have their moments, and they still beat most of the other crap that there is on TV. and with the constant repetition of the old episodes, i like seeing the occasional new episode

That one wouldn't even make my top 50 list. The best Simpsons episodes were Seasons 2 through 9 - you should get the DVD's for all those seasons when they eventually come out.

The newer Simpsons episodes still have their moments, but those older ones were pure genius.

"...must crush Capitalism!"

Also before the Berlin Wall popped back up there was a sign that read "Reunited and it feels so good."

I don't think the Simpsons really jumped the shark until Season 10. Look at some of the great Season 9 episodes:

- The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson

- The Cartridge Family (Homer becomes obsessed with guns - also includes the classic Mexico v. Portugal game/soccer riot scene)

- The Joy of Sect (everyone in Springfield converts to the Movementarian cult)

- Das Bus (the kids getting stranded on an uninhabited island, Lord of the Flies parody)

- the aforementioned Simpson Tide

- King of the Hill (Homer climbs the Murderhorn)
