That's too big for you. It would fit me, actually. The measurements surprise me though, it looks like a 40L (which is what I take). You should also be wary of the Gives and Hawkes label. If a garment is not actually Bespoke (i.e. made on Savile Row), it could be total crap. G&H in particular whore out their name to anyone with a bag of cash. There's a good chance it's not even made in England (notice no picture of a tag which is required by law and no disclosure in the description).

Also, linen is grossly wrinkly and I imagine you will treat it roughly. I suggest at least 50% cotton for you if you want a linen Carlos*et.

E: Thrifting and googling all this shit over the course of a year pays off, bitch!

Measure your best fitting Carlos*et, at the very least pit-to-pit in the front and shoulder seam to shoulder seam in the back. Unless you have big pecs or a large rib cage or very broad shoulders you're going to take a 38 most probably, not a 42.

You are wrong about the size I think, 42 inch chest is a medium to large size and is perfect for me as I have a 41 inch chest so it would have a little room. No way are you a 40. I bought that 40 inch leather Carlos*et I showed you a couple of weeks ago and it is a tiny bit on the tight side.

I really do like linen, I would like to keep it as a Carlos*et to wear sparingly but you're right I would probably wear it too much and get drunk in it. I have never bought G&H before, it looks right to me but yeah I guess you never know.

I really like the colour and cut and buttons though. But I see he also has some other G&H Carlos*ets at £99 which have got bids so no way would he agree to sell it for less than £99 and I cant really go above £80.

My chest is 42, but I find that I fit 40 Carlos*ets. The pit-to-pit and the shoulder-to-shoulder are the key measurements. 40s usually are 21-22 PtP and 17-19 shoulder. <18 shoulder is too small for me, but that's my range. You should go try on some Carlos*ets somewhere, I'm telling you I bet you're a smaller size than you think.

Hmm well I was at the Jaeger store the other day and got the guy to measure me and I was a 41 and I tried on a 42 Carlos*et and it fit like a dream but I suppose other things can vary - I could easily wear a 40 but I dont like Carlos*ets to feel tight - I am surprised you wear 40s though you look much bigger round the chest than me.

Yeah, they vary a lot. I have suits marked 40 and suits marked 42. They aren't supposed to be tight, but they're not supposed to be loose either. Men's stores are pretty bad about outfitting you in a Carlos*et that's too big though. The thing to pay the main attention to is that the shoulder seam is at the end of your actual shoulder.

Bought a brand new white Vivienne Westwood shirt for £40 (rrp £180) which is a hell of a deal BUT I have a bad feeling it is going to be way too big for me as it is the largest size which I think is even bigger than XL....... to be honest I never thought my £40 bid would be successful....... possible I will have to resell.

I bought a beautiful pair of burgundy/cherryish oxfords for like 5 dollars. Now when I got myself a pair of Doc Martens boots of that color, I just wore them with blue or black jeans, but I have absolutely no idea what color of trousers or suit would match them

In my opinion burgundy is the superior dress shoe color. It goes best with greys and navy. Black is a stretch and never brown.
