Romelo Lukaku of Anderlecht

This kid is only 16 and he is currently #1 in the Belgian scoring chart with 15 goals in 29 games. That is pretty incredible. He has 1 cap for Belgium already.

He is 192 cm (probably still growing) and is dubbed the next Drogba. He has pretty nice scoring skill and good technique and speed for a guy his size.

Chelsea want to buy him of course.

p.s. His potential in FM is 189 (H).

don't mean to sound rude, but you're a bit late to the news, man ... he's been catching the eye of most everyone in Europe with his impressive goalscoring record at his tender age all season, and has already been earmarked a future superstar / one to watch ...

he is one of a young crop of Belgians (Steven Defour, Axel Witsel, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, the tricksy Eden Hazard, Moussa Dembélé, Marouane Fellaini, Sébastien Pocognoli, Kevin Mirallas and even the established Thomas Vermaelen and Vincent Kompany who are still fairly young ... and there's even another 16-year-old called Mats Rits who's caught the eye -- though, being a defender, he's had lot less of a chance to be as prolific as Lukaku) who are all coming through at a similar time, and who are all quite impressive IMO ... I think it may see the Belgian national team get back to the big tournaments in a big way in the near future ...

So you still believe that he's only 16? :D

Common...he's at least 25...unless he's Hulk's cousin...and I don't mean Porto's star player

How am I late on the news? I simply wanted to start a thread on a player and talk to SG about him. I could have started one on Ibrahim Ba if I wished. Lukaku hasn't even been discussed in this forum.

Ahem... He totally doesn't look like 16, but note that his father (apparently) is born in 1966. Pretty plausible.

Another promising one with strange age:

Emmanuel Mbola of Tottenham (i didn't know he was at Tottenham until I read the WP article; I still believed he was at Pyunik)

He has 20 caps for Zambia at 16 years old. He is 3 days older than Lukaku.

Can you start the Ibrahim Ba thread?

It says on wiki Lukaku started with the club Rupel Boom in 1997 which would make him 4 at the time so it would be safe to say his age has been well documented and kept up, unless he was 2 feet bigger than his playing mates.

fair enough ... it sounded like you had just discovered the guy ... anyway, he's going to be ridic, given what he's shown already ...

I'm from Zambia, and know of Mbola well ... he's not at Spurs, though there was a possibility of that happening ... he's in DR Congo, playing for TP Mazembe now ... I was and still am very skeptical about Mbola's age, especially because dodgy things happening with birth certificates is not unheard of in that part of the world ...

another example: at the last World Cup in 2006, I was shocked to hear that Ghanaian Haminu Draman was eligibile for the Young Player Award, because he looked at least 30 at the time ...

I was skeptical about Freddy Adu too (coz he was born in Ghana, not the USA), and didn't look 14 when Nike and the MLS had a big party to announce his professional contract ... but he doesn't seem to have encountered any problems with any authorities regarding his age and/or birth certificate ...

the point about his father is a valid one ... and unlike Mbola (and Adu and Draman), Lukaku was born in Europe ... I don't know if it is easy or not to forge papers such as birth certificates in Belgium, but I would expect that it would be rather more difficult to get away with it than in Africa ... I'm still skeptical, but will have to go with what has been declared at the moment ...

in the last couple of years, FIFA has engaged age testing through MRI scans for youth tournaments ... but with both Lukaku and Mbola already playing for their senior national teams, there could be no mandatory age test administered for them ... hopefully the truth -- whatever it may be -- comes out soon enough ...

This guy is a big talent. SIGames is never mistaking.

Although I'm still waiting for the breakthrough of Maxim Tsigalko.

Tsigalko actually didn't have great potential/current ability, he just had great attributes in the right places.

His career didn't turn out too bad. Obviously more was expected but one of the top scorers in the best league in the world.
