man....this really has got to stop...now (faking in football)

I was watching Sports World in Toronto today and the British guy James Sherman was absolutly right.

They showed the Japan game and the Chine/Iran game.
First thing they show is how the Japanese guy barely accidently nudges the Bahrain player's face.......and gets a red card due to the faking.

Then....the most disgusting thing ive ever seen (EVER) as The Irani player gives the Chinese a regular shove......and gets a Red card after The chinese player rolls on the ground for 5 minutes as if he got punched.

Sherman said "Im sick of this!" ......hes right........BUT heres what got me. I had never thought of this before.
"The Red Card is destroying football little by little"

Hes right! Now....The Red Card is actually used as a Strategic point "Hey! Go fake a foul so #10 gets sent off". Its a ******* disgrace.

I think I found the solution (Really): Simple: Use the Video Screen (like in american football) ONLY(!) for unsure calls on Red Cards. (or even yellows).

I know that the Charm of Football has always been its human-quality (chance of error and contreversy).
I love it when games end with an ilegal offside and players go crazy:p

But this is truly a level passed stupidity.
I remember watching a game of the Classic Intercontinental Cup in 66 between Penarol and Real Madrid.

Both teams were getting literally kicked in the face.....and the players would just get up like the real men they were!! (I was shocked that there was no rolling around.....no crying for cards)

Then after 1970 it all changed (Ehem....Rivaldo in 2002)

I bet you all the money in this world that if you install Television screens for the fouls.....then give Red CArds to the divers.........you will never see anybody being a p*ssy or faking a foul for the sake of winning ever again.

I know that these games are so huge that you will do anything to win.......but jesus christ have some pride.

This has been an ongoing problem that has to stop now.

What do you guys think?

I don't see what you're trying to implement, it's hard to give a straight red for a dive, because there are times when a fouled player does look like he took a dive, so unfortunately it'd not do much for the cause, IMO.

I disagree with the whole team strategy thing. I don't think it's ever been a key point to anyone's game. I mean, I'm sure things like "go injure that player" have been used in football more than "go dive." I don't know of many coaches both who coach top flights, or who I have worked under who have told me or anyone else to go dive or injure someone, though. The most coaches can tell you to do to a player is mark him, because any more than that and they know they are just as much douchebags as the guy they sent out to make an injury or take a dive.

I think that videos should be reviewed after tha match, and the player and or the referee (sometimes they pull reds our of their @ss) fined, for players if they faked it and causing the other player to be sent off, and make them pay the other guy's fines.

no, cause the other team will anyway be playing with 10 men, and if they lose the game, who cares if the league fines the other guy.

I am really sick of people complaing about diving. If it is any other team that is doing it than it is the worse thing in soccer but if it is a player on your team that does it than it was a legitmate foul.

Diving is only a problem because everyone keeps bitching about it. I mean I dislike the antics of some of these players but the objective of the game is still the same. The team that scores the most goals wins. Diving is becoming the new Beckham. Everyone wants it to go away but no one will stop talking about.

simple review video replay ...
and automatic 3 match ban for a dive or trickery that made you gain an advantage in a match.

but the day FIFA will do anything against diving under Blatter will be the day pigs fly sadly.

nah...diving is fun....i do it all the time with my high school team;) ....we even see whos the best actor on the team....:crazyboy:

but to be serious...yea....the refs should stop giving direct reds unless its a blatant elbow to the face or something

A red card shouldn't be given for a dive, thats just stupid.

BTW I saw highlights of that Bahrain match. The ref has to be blind to give that Japanese guy a red. He hardly hit the guy.

Anywayz as long as humans are refs their will always be mistakes. My solution. Computerize everything :crazyboy:

Ok so thats a little extreme. The next best thing is to have a 5th official who is in charge of video replays or whatever and has one of those headpiece connection devices ( like the ones that American footbal coaches and quarterbacks have) so that the official can speak directly to the ref without the ref having to go to the sidelines. That way the official could quickly look over replays that have caused a commotion and quickly tell the ref what they saw and what they think should be done.

I think that way the game wouldn't be slowed down that much and a lot of problems would be solved with a quick solution.

sorry.....i should have been more clear.

im all fine with diving....it actually shows a funny/creative side of players. What I meant is.....that what should STOP is Refery's giving direct Red Cards on some "punches" or "elbows" that they barely even saw in the first place.

In this i mean when Its not part of a running play.

Take 1 Example: Remember France 98? Remember when Croatia was loosing 2-1 to France and all of a sudden the Croatian player just drops on the floor before the corner kick? The ref turns and assumes the player was hit......gives the Frenchman a red card and then he misses the WORLD CUP final (unforgivable).

Rivaldo was incredible. Whats wrong with Refs? Are they stupid or something?

"Whats that? .....A player on the floor? Oh.....my......he must have been elbowed.......(Pulls out Red)"

What happened in both Semis was literally unforgivable. Japan was 1 minute from getting eliminated and Iran got eliminated. Id put a 3-4 match ban.

Nothing against regular diving or pretending your hurt more than you are after a legit foul.....but when a guy stares at you......and you fall.........I dont have an actual word for that........just call it faking.

thats what i meant.

hope some ppl here dont suport that.

**** I've collided with people and had knees to my stomach, but I just got up and kept playing. None of this rolling around on the ground and holding my face and crying.

There are a lot of pussy footballers out there who really tarnish the image of the sport with their over-eggagerations everytime somebody touches them.

actually diving isnt about honour. Its smart.....sometimes you play a superior team and you already exhausted......you can get a spot kick or even a minute to rest.

but the only thing that has no honor is actually faking a hit on purpose (even if the guy didnt even touch you)....thats what gets me.
i dont know....maybe im making a big deal.....but I was just down that so many people here in North america were going to see what happened in those games today.

But Football should be kept a human sport.
thats whats great about football.....its pure human/unpredictable.

nyways....i shouldnt be worrying....there are millions of things that ppl see wrong with other sports
(ie: Football= Diving .....hockey=stoping the game to fight for no aparent reason.....rugby=gap between good and bad nations (besides that its a great sport)........etc etc
......Baseball......everything except when they hit homeruns :funny: (jks....dont wanna offend anyone)

actually, I was just talking about this to a friend....and hes right to tell me how much the refs and the game have evolved in the last 10-20 years. Back in the 70's-80's......refs wouldnt catch a dive or fake if his life depended on it.......cleets to the shins were just yellow cards.......

just wanted to hear some opinions on this (its a discusion board after all)
:p

screw the video replays i think.

in the case of players faking even being hit (rivaldo) in deadball situations i think the ref should consult with his linesmen a bit more

seriously........last week i got cleaten in the knee cap (accidently). It hurt alot.....but i got up right away and kept going.

Ive noticed in my time here that shows like "Real TV".....all they show about Football ("soccer") is riots ....riots.....riots. (as if theres riots every 5 minutes all over the world due to games)

For many americans ......Football is bad business for them....so thats where the bad propaganda comes from.
of course......canadians who know and anyone from anywhere else would just laugh at that.
really tho......I just found out that the Rogers Cable company president is the president of the Blue Jays (B-ball team).......now surprised why theres so much Baseball on TV?

Red cards aren't ruining the game, but diving is. The refs in the asian cup are obviously not good refs or it's that they see something we don't see. It's a pathetic way to play soccer, and anyone who dives (in pro soccer;) ) is a cheat.

diving isnt bad (its just another part of the game......tricking the ref and your oponents to your advantage......i love that.)

But FAKING is what im pissed about. Ok ....you dove.....but dont roll around for 10 minutes hoping for a card.

it's unfortunate but if it does help you to win games then go for it.... u are the champ..so what if other people say sth bad about u..... there was a ref and there were linesmen calling the game....

there are always people saying things like that team dived a lot and that's why they won this cup or that league. but after like a month or 2 they are all quiet or become some afterthought. e.g. there was this certain team called for diving a lot like a month ago for winning the CL but now it's not a big deal anymore.

it's a disgrace.... but somehow I feel that to most people being champion is worth being a disgrace for 2 monthes :kader:

this is a bit sad

lol.... there is this saying quite often used by many people : "rules are meant to be broken" :kader:
players are just stretching the rules to their advantage... first there was diving...after they see it works they tried play acting and it works also... so they're stretching it more and more
