You're also assuming he wouldnt be as good or even better if given the chance you gave someone nearly 40 years old, pogba won a junior world cup golden ball playing as a holding midfielder . scholes at best wasn't a liability defensively without Keane or someone to do his dirty work

I didn't assume he wasn't gonna be good. I was pissed off to see him leave. But that wasn't a good season for him to start in midfield. The following season, probably. i.e. When the time is right.

Most creative midfielders are not good defensively. Scholes is one of the best creative midfielders that ever existed. Pogba is a very different player: more of an explosive box to box midfielder.

That's the stupidest statement I have ever seen in the world of football discussion. I love that it was your 10k posts, too.

lol you guys are hilarious.

I mean, United only went through one of the most successful periods in its history, brushing aside two teams built by billionaires (who probably at some point in their life literally wiped their ass with money), without a DM. Guess that worked out ok.

Why play scholes as a defensive midfielder when a natural DM in the squad exists then?

That particular season, he wasn't as good as the following one. That's what you don't understand. His time was to come but it wasn't that season.

Did you watch one of his 7 games that season?! If you haven't, then you can't make an argument that he should have been picked over Scholes.

Already answered. He wasn't good enough yet.

ya, totally retarded statement

Well, yes. The notion that you don't need a defensive player because you have a player who is great at keeping posession is stupid because it doesn't even work for Barca or Bayern and their entire team is oriented towards a possession game. They can get away with a different sort of DM because they recover the ball all across the field. This isn't the case for your team. Not to mention that it greatly overestimates Scholes' ability. The entire notion is retarded and shows a complete lack of understanding for how the game works.

Then somehow he did something magical in the time from moving to United to Juve because he was fine defensively upon joining us, and if you'd actually played him regularly with confidence he would have improved, if he wasn't already better than Scholes defensively it would only take a few games, and then you would have actually had a player who wasn't going to retire

I see your point but being "fine defensively" in the italian league is different from being "fine defensively" in the EPL. Serie A is a joke.

Barca and Bayern don't have a player that can find you anywhere on the field. Your thinking is much too rigid with a traditional school of thought that to win you need a midfielder who can defend and a midfielder who can attack. Maybe you watched too much of Ancelotti's diamond formation and now think that its the only way to go? Ferguson has proven time and time again that you don't need a good tackling midfielder, and if you think that United's success was strictly down to individualistic brilliance of its forwards, then you haven't watched nearly enough United games to comment about our tactics.

Also...Xavi: In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen — the most complete — is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more.

There is not much need to prove here, our success speaks for itself.

I didn't say DM, I said defensive player.

You're gonna make burst if you keep making comments like your first one.

Xavi is retarded. Just like your original statement.

Yes serie a is a joke but it is still infinitely harder tactically to succeed in which is why most young players are shunned, I still think he would have done a better defensive job than scholes

Keane was gone by the time we won all those titles

Fletcher, ok ill give you that, you are partially right. Fletcher-Scholes played as much as Scholes-Carrick. And even then we still match City by points in 2012 without Fletcher and then won the league by double digits the next year again without Fletcher

Hargreaves

Phil Jones was only playing there when Scholes needed a rest

At the end of the day our starting line-up was still to put Scholes and Carrick in midfield over the last 7 years.

Hargreaves played like 30 gamesin his first season and was brought in for like 20 million, obviously fergie saw a need for a defensive midfielder, fletcher and Hargreaves' injuries weren't planned for obviously and had they not been injured all the time they would have started hmm I wonder why?

Also you're judging your success based on matching Roberto Mancini? Seriously?
