Mike Phelan:

"If Sir Alex and David Gill had still been the bosses... I won’t name the player, but there would have been a star signing - one of the absolute best players in the world.

It was something the boss talked about, and the owners and David Gill were also quite clear on doing it. There’s very few of such players out there. I think it’s clear to everybody who I’m talking about.

We didn’t see the need for a big clear-out of the squad, that’s why Sir Alex and I had one big signing in sight. One such star signing gives everybody a lift, we saw that with Robin van Persie."

Don't know the point of saying this now, almost sounds bitter from Phelan. Newspaper seem to believe its Ronaldo. I have a feeling that its actually Fabregas. There was always something weird about how United chased him and how he didn't really commit himself to Barcelona until mid August or so. Ferguson is also known to be a big admirer of Cesc.

I'm glad he didn't go, I love Cesc and so far he's had my dream career (well, second too spending 20 seasons at Porto and breaking all of the club's records), so going to United would ruin that.

If I was a United fan I would not be too happy with both Fergusen and Phelan's recent behaviour in terms of undermining the club.

Exactly, I don't care about Phelan, but Fergie behaviour was disappointing, he didn’t need to disclose locker room secrets to sell his fucking book … Keane and Beckham, good or bad, made huge impact in his and club legacy.

You guys have a point, but I'm with Ferguson on this one (although if you said i'm biased, I wouldn't argue back). Everybody he attacked were undermining the team's spirit. Look at our best guys like Scholes, Giggs and Carrick, how much do you hear about them apart from their football? I think Ferguson was right to sell all of them when he did.

If their behaviour was destabilizing our team, then fuck em. The main man was Ferguson and he need to work with quite, low ego guys, so if someone developed an ego I can't be all that pissed at Ferguson for telling them off.

Its an autobiography not Coaching 101, it needs to explore the main topics the author faced and what Ferguson did was man management, not come up with superb tactics.

I thought it was poorly timed, he should have given Moyes time to settle and exert himself. Also I dont think he should have talked about current players (ie Rooney). I think if a less iconic manager wrote a book like that, at that time, you would not be happy.

Ya I can't argue with that. He really hasn't done Moyes any favours with this.

Apart from van Persie and maybe Kagawa last year, how many "star" players did we sign in the last 5 years? What he said means nothing. Whoever it was, there s no guarantee that he would have signed. How many players do we get linked with and the end sign players like Young or Valencia?

True but we have been begging for a CM for years now and got nothing since 2007 (Hargreaves, Carrcick and Anderson).

Way too early to say he is a flop. His first 2 games were great. I don't know what happened after that. He has been lazy and careless in the last few games. I hope he is just off form or is still adapting.

At the moment, he can't pass, he can't win balls, his shoots and tackles are really poor ... best part, is the sales of his stupid hair merchandises.

Btw, we should sign his brother as well, just for fun ...

Sorry but this is ridiculous. Felaini doesnt deserve to be anywhere near the other players on that list. Firstly, he was an established premier league star, the only other of those you could sort of say that about is Young. Secondly, he is a first teamer from day one, which none of those were, again except maybe Young. But, he is much younger than Young (see what I did there?) was when he joined, has already made an impressive start in some games, is experienced working with Moyes and is undoubtably helping him implement his style in dressing room/behind scenes, AND you havent given him any time to adapt and find his rhythm. Djemba, Kleba and Bebe are all pretty much joke signings, Young is a flop, but Fellaini will be a good if not great player for you.

He came from Atlético Paranaense. Premier League is a different and more difficult animal than any other league or tournament including international.

I watched Fellaini a lot in a blue shirt over the past two or three years and I am a big admirer, he did so much on the pitch, was so versatile and also such a strong backbone to the team. He was frequently my fantasy team captain! The skills he possesses will fit perfectly into United when this team gets its shit together.

In other news, Nick Powell is looking hot at Wigan. Owen Coyle is a good man to develop him. Give him to Steve Clarke at WBA next season, Martinez at Everton the season after and you may just have yourself a star.
