Manager Mode can't watch the game

I apologize if someone posted a similar message, but when playing manager mode for FIFA 11, I am unable to watch the game. My only option is to actually play, unlike prior versions. When the option of choosing sides, I try to place the choice to the middle of the screen thus not choosing a side. A prompt comes up telling me I must choose a side. is there some way to change this?
