Manager Mode: renewing contracts, end of season

At the end of each season in manager mode, I'm prompted to accept or decline the renewal of certain players' contracts. This includes players who have several years remaining on their contracts.

There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to which players are listed, and it changes from season to season.

I always choose to "accept" the renewals, because I have no idea what the whole thing is all about, and have no idea if I'm gonna lose all those players by pressing "decline."

Does anybody know what in the world that whole weird, unexplained deal is all about?

At "career central" go and enter to "team managment". Scroll down to "player contracts" and enter that. From that screen you can see every player in your squad. Each player has a contract which shows...

1.) Market value
2.) renewal cost
3.) cost per match
4.) contract length
5.) percentage per game

if there contract length is at 1. You will have to renew there contact. You can do this now or at the end of the season. If you do it at the end of the season they usally offer 1 to 2 year contracts that usaually cost 400+ per game. If you renew them before the end of the season you get to set the contract and it is up to the player to choose. If you have a good "negotiater" 7+ you can bargain with the player and could even get around 200 to 250 instead of 400+. I think it is better to renew before the end of the season.

Thanks, Gunners. I'm familiar with the career central stuff. As I wrote in my initial post, I'm talking about players that have several years remaining on their contracts.

In the end-of-season renewal thing I'm talking about, it even displays each of the targeted players' "Current Contract." So there it is, showing three or four years remaining, plain as day, yet still asking me if I wish to renew the contract.

I've seen people pose this question on message boards, including here, so I know I'm not alone. (If anyone has answered the question, though, I've missed it.)

In an unrelated mystery, probably due a thread of its own: At least twice during what is now a 7-year manager mode career, I've encountered unsolicited buy offers from other teams for a couple of my players. I'm talking about well outside of transfer periods, when I have not actively placed any players on the market.

Does anyone know what this is all about, and do I also have the ability to solicit other teams' players outside of a transfer period? This is yet another issue I've seen mentioned on various boards, but only in passing, so I've not seen it directly addressed.
