Manchester City Thread [07/08]

soo I figured I should start this thread since we've made some waves this summer. beating West Ham 2-0 away was a huge boost for the fans, showing that maybe SGE could lead this team somewhere? maybe? especially with all the additions we've made. look at this possible starting XI:

GK: Isaksson (Hart, Kasper)

DL: Garrido (Ball)
DC: Dunne, Corluka (Onouha)
DR: Micah (Sun Jihai)

ML: Petrov
DMC: Hamann (Johnson, Gelson)
AMC: Elano (Geovanni, Ireland)
MR: Elano/Geovanni/Ireland?

FC: Bianchi, Bojinov (Corradi, Samaras(N), Mpenza, Vassell, Sturridge)

not exactly sure of what formation we're playing right now, but with that depth we can certainly cause some problems regardless. gonna be an exciting season

Well I think we can pull a few surprises this season, but as soon as any of the decent players pickup an injury, our lack of depth will show through. I think this year will be a good one, but not great, and hopefully a few of the youngsters can get the experience they need to push on the next season. So long as we can finish mid-table, and possibly inside UEFA cup spots, it will be a success, but a tenth-place finish and a couple of good cup runs (who knows, SGE is talking about taking the Carling Cup seriously...) will make this a decent start for him as manager.

I am just not so hot on our new owner... but that can be debated elsewhere.

As for our formation, looks like a 4-2-3-1, he seems intent on the lone striker thing so a 4-5-1 this weekend would not be a surprise. I just hope Elano continues the promise he is showing... what a buy if he does.

WIll we sneak it this weekend> I hope so, but a draw would be good, and I would be more concerned bout picking up unnecessary cards and injuries, which will hinder our chances in the 'must-win' games against the likes of Villa and Portsmouth etc.

I feel guilty and absolutely ashamed to be admitting this, but I'm looking more forward to your derby and the Chelsea/Liverpool game this weekened way more than I am to our fixture against God who knows? Oh...Bentley and Blackburn.......yeah, cool......I've sure got my Cock hard, veiny and shiny for that one.....woooo, yeah. Get out the bubbly and fine popcorn, Sally, 'cause we's gonna party hearty.

btw, from the highlights I saw of that Michael Johnson kid, he looked awesome, man.

you're definitely right about the depth part, Aaron.. only place we've got any depth right now is up front where we have about 7 strikers at our disposal :S we're lacking in defense and on the wings, but hopefully the boys can stay mostly healthy throughout the season.

Yoss: Johnson's a class youngster, yet another one from our academy... when I first saw him last season I knew he wouldn't get sent back down, he'll be at least on the bench this season. at this pace he and Didi just may hold the 2 central mid positions all season long

Congrats on the thread. I wish you guys much luck this season. It'd be refreshing to keep seeing you on top of that other Mancunian side.

I too am looking forward to The ManU - ManCity Game. If you can hold them to a draw, that will be another blow to ManU, And without Ronaldo, You just may be able to do so.

I really hope Man City to do well, I like them. I hope also you beat scums. Haha. 0-2-1 will hurt that "big club" :D

If not LFC win the title, I hope you do. :)

With Ronaldo and Rooney both out we have a big chance of taking the 3 points. the only remaining threat to us now is Richard Dunne.

Well, City definitely have a chance against United. If Reading and Portsmouth could have held onto a draw, why wouldn't City win at home?

I hope it's a draw, though, because I like United.

Better be careful, heard Dunne's finishing is pretty lethal. (H)

Also, I watched the West Ham - Man City game and Richards was basically the **** in defence. Pretty much everything was intercepted by him.

Well ultimately Isaakson is the number one so if fit, he would be expected to start. Schmeichel is only 20 and whilst he has the best to learn from (his dad) there is still a way to go. Still a bit dodgy under the high ball for my liking, but a decent run of games this season (I guess we can expect to see him starting in the Carling Cup games at the very least) and he will learn a fair bit. And the pressure will definitely be on him this weekend and next (against Arsenal) thats for sure.
