ngyc...very well said....

Is it coincidental that this downfall starting roughly when Beckham got shipped to Spain? I still believe that this is one of the main reason why we are in the position we are today.

Van Nistelrooy has been quiet last season relative to his first 2.. and I can only think of Beckham... he might have no dribbling, no defending, no pace... but he has one heck of a cross... and that alone created numerous goals for Van Nistelrooy and got many points for the team.

Also, Beckham had the spirit and passion... look at the CL game between Man Utd and Real at OT... he was a sub.. but he came in... scored two goals, and almost grabbed the hattrick which would've secured ManU's passage.... And he had like 30 minutes on the pitch? He was running for everything, doing everything that he could...

Why did we sell him?

I also believe that it is SAF's personal emotion getting the better of his football judgement. He has done it before with Stam, and he did it again with Beckham.

And it is costing the team.

I also can't believe that we are lookin for a replacement for Keane and Giggs...now! Surely someone with SAF's experience would've realised Keane and Giggs's performance will deteriote with time. Why did we just stand still when the market was down and then start looking when time finally catches up with them? Was SAF resting on his laurels just abit too much?

Anyways, I have no idea how we can solve the midfield problem. I sincerely hope that when the players come back (mostly non-midfield players), we will transform into the awe-inspiring team that we once were. However, for the first time since I've known about United, I have my doubts about whether we can even challenge for the title...

Like I said before, lets hope SAF proves me wrong...

After goal_machine84's post...got me thinking..

Out of curiousity... if you were SAF, and that there are no injuries (Definitely dreaming).... what would be your starting 11, what will your formation be, and what will be you strategy (ie. justify your lineup)?

---------------- Howard ----------------------
--------------------------------------------------
--- G.Neville --- Rio --- Wes --- Heinze ---
--------------------------------------------------
-------------------------- Keane ---------------
--- Ronaldo ------------------------ Giggs ---
------------------- Smith -----------------------
---------------------------------------------------
----------- Rooney ------- Ruud --------------

Sub: Carrol, Spector, Saha, Scholes, Djemba

- Dropping Silvestre. Howard i'll give him a chance...

- Replacing Smith for Scholes... since Smith will be more likely to run that extra mile to cover for Keane's lack of pace...

- Rooney should also be dropping deep to get the ball... and running at the defence... that could also drag some defender away from Ruud...

- Ronaldo and Giggs will provide the crosses... and long shots..

- Ultimately would replace Keane and Giggs... but there is noone with enough class to do so in the team...

- For subs, Djemba in case we need that extra man to defend a lead...

Andrejs

Starting XI
I imagine Fergie singing "What have you done for me lately" and showing the bench to Scholes :(

But yeah i agree he should be rested for some games.

Help?

Scholes needs a rest for sure. On Saturday it seemed that the only guy who was able to take care of Okocha was Smith and he was playing forward that game, probably stole the ball from Jay-Jay more than Scholes and Keane together.

The last thing we need is a brainless player in the squad. I prefer Kleberson over him at any situation. Djemba-Djemba is just too dumb . . .

And I don`t understand this whole "KILL SILVESTRE" ****, I remember how you all can tolerate the legendary 6 months runs of blunders by Wes Brown. You all can tolerate his blunders, own goals and mistakes throughout almost the whole freakin` season, but you can`t stand Silvestre. Is it because he is French or something. Yeah, we should drop Silvestre for a couple of weeks, but we should also remember how many freakin` times he backed up and save our asses from Brown`s stupid losin` of the ball some months ago. He`s still a Red Devil.

I agree on the Silvestre/Brown part, but you are the guy with "Wes Brown hater.." as your user name.

On the Djemba-Djemba situation, I quite like him. He's starting to be more confident on the ball and he is a useful player.

There`s something weird about my user name . . . Ever since I put that, Wes played the best weeks of his life, too bad it was to late, it was a couple of weeks before the season ended (H) Perhaps I should change it into Silvestre and Brown Hater and probably our defense will be vastly improved . . .

I never questioned Djemba`s skills on the ball, the only thing that bugs me about him is that he stops the momentum cos` sometimes he is holdin` on the ball too much. It seems like he was clueless of what to do with the ball everytime he got it. His passin` is terrible and mostly useless.

24 is a mature age for today`s footballer. And Silvestre is only two years older  It`s not like you`re comparin` a 24 year old with a 35 year old player. Some of us are not being fair. Silvestre had a couple of bad weeks and suddenly everyone here wants him out or even worse, kill him. While Wes screwed up for almost half way through the season, but all of you defending him with injuries reason, or young age.
