The Review

Firstly, I would like to say that Rob Louis does not meet the criteria from us to be a linesman.

Let's get to it. Today's performance saw us breaking a two-game scoreless streak. However, the goals from Saha and van Nistelrooy could well be at the end of the day own goals by Phillips and Dodd. It could've been a hat-trick by Phillips today.

Our attack has excelled tremondously but our defence is a decline. Conceding 2 goals at home is unacceptable. Silvestre was sloppy, cant be said for Brown who is still lacking sharpness IMO. Fortune might as well cost us a goal and Howard of all people had wonderful saves overshadowed by mistakes that might cause us the game.

It could have been at least 6 goals for us. Saha was great and helped to defend. There should be at least 2 penalties and some offside calls are atrocious.

ROFL @ the linesman......... I dunno could be just me but that guy resembles a peeping tom. Never mind he looks like a creep, but the way he peeps from the line is just hilarious. Maybe he needs glasses or something. I fail to see how he can ever be a full-time professional.

RVN was robbed of a penalty, Howard made some great great saves and I sort of agree Fortune doesn't belong at leftback, but he is still a very good player. Maybe if the defence was more solid he could play as an attacking fullback. Ronaldo injury doesn't look too bad, his knee looks scratched but nothing serious. Philip Neville is one big question mark for me... why Fergie chose him over Butt and Kleberson is beyond me... and as for the defence.......

WE NEED LUCIO!!! (H) :rockman: :mrpimp:

Damn. We're starting to miss Ferdinand already. :kader:

transfer window going to close, no time to buy a defender. :f***:

the problem is not the skill or ability, its how consistent they performed, the score could've been 3-0 on their day or 3-6 if they do not perform, we had to be grateful for the chances they missed(no offense to saints fans) and they pushed us all the way and i congratulate them ;)

Philip Neville was chosen because he is one of our best players this year. I do agree he had a poor game but you cant say you are amazed by not getting butt chosen over him. Kleberson i rather see in the team and we need giggs back badly.

The defence need sorting out, just think wes and silvestre need time to get used to each other. Wes brown needs to grow up and stop making those errors he used to make when he fell a sleep, we can't defend like this. :f***:

Great result for us, Southampton showed some tremendous fighting spirit and they deserve credit.

The linesman was pants.

My MoM is Kevin Phillips, today he showed me why Gordon forked out £3m for him, good buy, and he likes to wind up Lehmann which is also a plus. ;)

I think the defence needs alot of tweaking, maybe have Roy Keane play at the back?.

The trio of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha and Paul Scholes looks really promising, and it will be even more dangerous once Ryan Giggs is back 100% fit.

Unfortunate deflection for Phillips on the first goal, delighted for Louis, just the start he needs for his Manchester United career.

Our second goal was just sheer magic, throw-in from O'Shea, first touch's from Saha, Keane, van Nistelrooy, and a wicked shot from Louis Saha, and a rebound by Scholes who was on-side. :)

Ormerod or Phillips will both try and claim Southampton's first goal, there was nothing either Brown or Howard could do about that one, although it hit Ormerods hand on the way in, I don't think it was deliberate anyway.

Southampton's second goal was magic, I'm surprised no one was even near Phillips, but a great strike, Howard was beaten.

Lets be honest, van Nistelrooy was definetely offside when the freekick was played to him for United's 3rd goal, however, I think we deserved the goal anyway - Fernandes(Standing inside the box!) deliberately hand-balled Ronaldo's freekick, and we only got another freekick instead of, which should've been a penalty.

Paul Scholes had gone in for a challenge on Fernandes's shot, but I don't think the hand-ball was deliberate, and Scholes got the benefit of the doubt.

Phillips was inchs away from getting the equalizer off of Beattie's cross(also had a tip from Howard), how lucky we were.

And Howard made a great save at the end, but It was probably going onto the bar anyway.

As for decisions, well today just goes to show that you win some and you lose some.

Big win for us today, Strachan has put together a great team.

wat a match!!,we won at the end though. Very good luck to Saha!!:)
fergies view of the match:
"Louis made a goal - the strike the keeper saved for Scholes to score, he's scored the free kick and Ruud's got his goal. So if they're going to contribute like that for the rest of the season I'll be very pleased."

and watching this game again I am convinced Howard is THE outstanding buy of the last twenty years, and Scholes doesn't have a clue about defending.
