Yes very disappointing but good to see we're only 1 point behind Liverpool and 3 points behind City. They probably played better sides but we aren't the only side not performing so well.

waiting for Shaw to get fit and get rid out of Blackett....
Are you trying to lay all the blame for the last match on Blackett? Or our string of poor peformances? I wouldn't, he's been a pretty consistant performer, otherwise van Gaal wouldn't be starting him every match. Yeah we've had or have a fair share of injured defenders, and now Jonny Evans is out for a month? But no need to blame that guy. The rumour has it that Carrick will be playing as a CB once he returns from injury, at least for a few matches.

The ideal defensive setup would probably consist of Shaw, Rojo, Jones and Rafael, i believe. But i've heard that people consider Rojo being better at left back position, rather than centre back. I've never seen the guy play CB in my life, maybe the ones here who watch Primeira Liga could sum it up who had seen him playing for Sporting. All i know is that he used to like picking up a lot of yellow/red cards during the time he spent there, although he seems like a nice guy so far.

Blackett is shockingly bad.

And if it is the case that Rojo is significantly better as LB, the fact you made your only two big money defender signings for the same position is laughable considering the state of your defense.

I agree that your back line should be Shaw - Rojo - Jones - Rafael, but for some reason I have never understood successive managers tend to prefer Evans to Jones.

Not sure about that Rojo position thing, i'm sure he can be a pretty good CB as well. I believe he was signed because van Gaal wanted him on the left side of the 3 man defence in the first place. Now there's a change of formation, and since we've got no actual LB backups, having both Shaw and Rojo is good. Blind can play there as well, but he's not better than the ones mentioned in that position.

Evans is pretty good actually. He just needs an experienced defender besides him. I really wish we had kept Vidić for one more season. That would be a blessing. Jones in both prone to injuries and mistakes, getting played as a utility player during the previous seasons doesn't really help his cause. CB, RB and DM when necessary.

I really dont know much about Daley Blind but from what I am told he can be an absolute liability when played in the back row, David Luiz on acid.

Evans is really, really not very good - I have no idea why everyone with any association to United, from fans upwards, insist on wearing rose tinted spectacles when it comes to him. He is basically in the Shawcross/Delph/McAuley class and whilst United rely on defenders like him, their club remains at the same level as the clubs those guys play for.

Hahaha :d

Well Evans is considered as our best centre back by most of our supporters. He's the most experienced, good with the ball at his feet and gets the job done. Nothing brilliant of course.

Now i don't know why Smalling received so much criticism last season, everytime i saw the guy play, whether as a RB or CB, he was always pretty damn good.

But as i've mentioned earlier somewhere in this thread, we shouldn't be dreaming about signing Ronaldos, and get our defense sorted out first. A high quality centre back is required. I doubt Rojo is the answer to our problems in that regard.

Evans isn't horrible. I wouldn't really say I'm a fan of his, but he's solid and reliable; you can get away with him starting 38 matches and still win the title. Of course, this assumes that he has a good partner. If Rojo leaves as much space behind him playing as CB as he does at LB, you are going to concede 5 goals a lot.

Evans is shit. I never really liked him except for his first 1 or 2 seasons where he showed promise.

Needs to play with an experienced CB? He's 26. Supposed to be at or near his peak. He's supposed to be an experienced CB himself.

Other than this last game, I think Blackett has been pretty solid but most of the time he has played in a back 3 with LOTS of backup if he screws up. He's got the potential but not yet ready. Needs some time on loan in another EPL team.

Shit? Nope. Nothing spectacular either. When he had Ferdinand or Vidić playing alongside him a few years ago, he was and is quite good. That's why i mentioned "an experienced defender". He sometimes looks quite lost on the pitch when he's paired up with Smalling for example.

26 is usually not the age when centre-backs peak at. Most of them gain experience and get better with age. I'd say 28-30 is the age one should be peaking (as CB ). Depends on the player though. Some never will.

Gotta love goal.com. I wonder how did they come up with this - "having been impressed by his form so far this season". Well he certainly hasn't impressed me by his form this season. Also checked as.com which they cited as their source, nothing like that on their website. Now seriously talking if the right offer would come, i'd sell the guy right away.

Ok maybe "shit" is harsh. I get your point. He has been in the first team for 5-6 years now and has learned from Ferdinand and Vidic for years and that can be a plus. I still don't rate him that much. I was very pissed off when he gave away the ball in MK Dons first goal. This is unacceptable. This should never happen at this level.

At the moment, I think Jones-Evans is probably our safest CB pair because of their experience. I don't know too much about Rojo at CB.

Maybe the Portuguese should shed a light on that.

Liability. Maybe he can grow, and he definitely wasn't the only one to blame for Sporting's poor defending, but he wasn't good. I'm still shocked he's at United. The fact that he's probably your best or second best defender says more about you than it does about Rojo.
