Despite his 14 MotM performances?!

"Considering United's official website have Buttner's appearance total standing at 28 across all competitions, with WhoScored.com noting he made just 14 starts in the Premier League and Europe, it is highly unlikely he was voted man of the match so often. The 25-year-old showed plenty of commitment but limited quality for United, indicating he may have his numbers mixed up."

Very unlikely to be true.

I think he was a good backup for Evra but was never going to be starter. What we need is a young LB to take over Evra and Evra as backup. Evra seems to love United and I hope he won't mind being backup.

I worry about the debt but we have twice more sponsors than most top teams and United is the most supported club. I can't see LvG not doing worse than Moyes. There may be a dip in the debt but we'll catch up.

Looks like Shaw is close as well. He will be the most expensive ever teenager if the transfer goes through. Gamble or not?

This is IMO our best formation with the players we have:

Our wingers are shit, therefore ditch them.

Kagawa and Januzaj as backup for Mata. Welbeck and Chicharito for the 2 strikers.

We still need 1 or 2 defenders and 1 or 2 midfielders. van Persie should be captain. He was captain at Arsenal and is now for Holland.

28 million pounds is reasonable considering we paid 22 millions for Hargeaves 7 years ago and 23 millions for Carrick 8 years ago.

Herrera seems to be a good all-round midfielder - very good defensively and makes great passes. His passing rate is 80% but that's because he attempts more killer passes than someone like Carrick. He has played as an AMF most of this season I think.

Yes in front of Mikel Rico-Iturraspe double pivot. With Bielsa played in the same position than your formation though.

I'd make Carrick captain, or even Jones. van Persie is too moody. Fletcher is probably your most captain like player but a lot depends on his health.

This makes no sense at all. Herrera plays a more expensive position, is better than Hargreaves and Carrick were when they were purchased, and as you note it has been 7-8 years since those transfers. "Reasonable" would be more like 35-40m.

Haven't seen Herrera play live but Thiago Alcantara and Fabregas are probably better but cost less. Is Herrera really worth twice more than Thiago? He only cost 20 million pounds because of his contract clause. 35 to 40 is way too much for him.

Jones is too young to become captain now. Traditionally, captaincy has been given based on seniority at United. He is also not a sure starter and still makes naive mistakes at times. He is not mature enough yet to be captain but he probably will be at some point.

Rooney is out of question. Only a manager like Moyes would select him as captain.

Carrick and Fletcher would be good as captain but both are declining. Based on Carrick's form last year, I don't think he should be a starter. He is 32 and is past his best. Same for Fletcher. Captaincy should be given to someone who's sure to start imo.

van Gaal will probably make van Persie the next captain. At least i wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Ander Herrera... nice. Looks like Shaw will be the next one.

So far, Ed Woodland has signed Herrera, Shaw, Mata and Fellaini. He did not get any bargains (Fellaini is worth half of his price or less) but pretty impressive work so far.

Last season, we (including me) were putting all the blame on him for not being good and experienced enough in the market and we were backing Moyes. It may have been Moyes' fault for not making any marqee signings afterall.

Shaw's expensive but I'm disappointed you got him and not us. Especially if we wind up getting Filipe Luis for a similar price.

Yes 30 millions is insane. May be a gamble but for an 18 year old, he already looks very mature. He has had 2 solid seasons.

Because of money spending? I don't think I ever did. Lots of other United fans here did. Most notably LCS.

I have been criticising Glazers for our lack of spending in comparison to Liverpool, City and Chelsea but I don't remember criticising City's spending. I may have ridiculed them for spending lots on average players though but thats different from criticising.

That being said, there are rumours that Glazers have allocated 150 millions on transfers for van Gaal. Things will be different this year in comparison to the last 10 years with Glazers.

Saw that somewhere on manutd.com:

Juan Mata and Chicharito were both on target in the World Cup yesterday, joining van Persie, Fellaini, Rooney and Nani as Reds with goals in this year's tournament. Our tally of six scorers is higher than any other club

Our players are in good form. 8 goals in total. That's pretty awesome.

Our 3 defenders, Shaw, Jones and Smalling kept a cheansheet against Costa Rica as well.
