During the Germany-Sweden match this inept commentator kept referring to Germany's oppenents in the quarter finals as the Argentinians, before the match had even occurred. This is shambolic commentating and quite an insult to a reasonable Mexican side who took Argentina all the way. How could he just assume they would walk over Mexico and state this on air with no shame? I was pulling for the Mexicans just to see his face. This shouldnt be allowed and once again exposes the joke that is the US commentary. I hope Shep Messing is left homeless and destitute.

Dave O'Brien is good but still fresh, he's decent for a guy not even knowing **** about the sport as early as January of this year, though he still makes mistakes. If he sticks to it I think he'll be good. All of the former players are horrible commentators or analysts, they just suck and are always wrong. ******* Wynalda the king of idiocracy thinks France is better off without Zidane just because they played well against TOGO without him for 1 game. Balboa is terrible, Foudy is ugly and needs to get off of my television. Alexei is the best of the bunch and he's not even that great. I think Rob Stone should be promoted to top play-by-play guy because he really has a passion for the game IMO.

Although one thing I can give some of them credit for is their willingness to be outspoken, which creates some sort of buzz or attention around the team instead of the usual apathy. All of these things tho that we are complaining about with the broadcasts and commentators are the result of the producers. They decided to have boring commentators that don't know **** and don't know how to call a game, without interrupting the play with a lame story that everyone that is familiar with the game already knows. They try to feed the fan that knows nothing about the sport, you can't really blame them though as all they care about is ratings.

i like dave o'brien. for someone that doesn't really have a history with soccer, he does a good job.

marcelo sucks. he gets his facts wrong all the time. i remember watching the england/sweden match, and he was saying how ljungberg has been at arsenal for a decade and beckham's 34 years old.

julie foudy sucks too. i'm really not sure why she's even on. she doesn't provide any insight or provide anything special.

lalas says a bunch of stupid crap, but he's better than foudy and marcelo. but that's really not saying much.

wynalda tells it like it is and isn't afraid to sugarcoat things, but everytime he talks, he comes across as some bitter ex-player that's forgotten amongst the u.s.'s recent success.

don't get me started with the shep messing.

Oh give me a break, you always assume the stronger side will be your next opponent and then if you get the lesser team you are pleasantly surprised. Argentina is pretty clearly the stronger side.

Marcelo Balboa tried to make a joke during the England match by saying the Ecuadorian keeper must not see very well because of all that paint on his face :confused: I turn off ESPN whenever halftime rolls around because they don't really say anything that is helpful. At least it looks like they'll finally stop talking about the USA everytime they get a chance to do so now that they've been home for a few days.

does anyone else enjoy Adrian Healey as a play-by-play commentator? I find his play-by play to be great except when he tries to tries to make analogies with american sports. it's unfortunate he was paired with Tommy Smith and won't be a part of the remainder of the world cup.

Lalas still think Portugal is playing with the Golden Generation like in WC02 LOL. He even said Portugal did crappy in Euro2004 :rofl: Where do they find theses commentaters. Next WC they'll probably have McBride and Arena talking about how the US is going to win it all in 2010.

Ah, so do you guys get every single game on TV? I wouldn't of thought the ratings for a football match would be that good in America.

yea we get every single game in HD but the announcers are not nearly as good as there English counterparts. I think its getting pretty good ratings considering that most people are working at those hours of the day.

Tommy Smyth is a genius. The net looks like an onion bag... therefore its appropritate to call it one. Well tommy smyth looks like a (explisive deleted), so I guess its appopriate to call him one.

Marcelo Balboa is ok, gives ok analsyis, but sometimes he just speaks for the sake of speaking which annoys me. I prefer watching it on univision and galavision, the commentators are awesome, PENAL PENAL PENAL PENAL PENAL PENAL PENALTY!!!!! Nothing like repeating something over and over again, gives you the confidence in knowing galavision and univision care about the mildly retarded so much that they paid them to do commentary during the world cup... must be their last wish from the last wish foundation. My last wish would be to kick connie chung in the balls... and tell maury that she's the father and then dance around him like I won the lottery just like all the contenstants on his show.

I like Dave O'Brien as well. He could become a very solid play-by-play announcer. Adrian Healey is good as well. Tommy Smith is OK. Everyone else sucks. It seems like none of the analysts have ever watched a game outside of MLS or the U.S. national team. Shepp Messing has to be the worst commentaror ever.

I think most of our announceers arent bad they just talk entirely to much. Balboa is the worst of all to me because he is always telling us what ya gotta do, ya gotta, ya gotta, ya gotta. Then while he's catching his breath Dave O'Brien has to tell us some interesting facts. But the thing I hate the most is the graphics that cover up the bottom third of the screen while a player has the ball and its covering it up.

Well what I meant was... tommy smyth is a beaner and south americans aren't. That probably didn't make things better. Well atleast I have my coco puffs and my lucky charms.
