Master League nightmare, learning the hard way

I just finished my third season, and things were progressing nicely.

Season 1 I finished second in Division 2 and was promoted.

Season 2 I finished middle of the pack in Division 1

Season 3 I was in first going into my last game, but a 2-0 loss to Man United allowed them and Liverpool to pass me, so I finished 3rd.

During my third season, I bought two players during the second transfer period. After the first purchase, it didn't look like any money had been deducted, so I thought maybe it was a bug. I spent another huge chunk of cash on a second player, and again no deduction from my team's total points.

Now that the season has ended and the players have joined my team........SLAM!!!! There goes my cash. Now I'm in the negotiation period prior to season 4. If one of the CPU teams doesn't offer to buy a player, I'm screwed. Right now I have -3500 points, which is going to result in a Game Over if I've read the instructions properly.

So my question is, is there any way to tell how much cash you actually have after mid-season transfer purchases? The whole time I thought I was sitting pretty in the cash department, not knowing it would deduct everything at the END of the season. Or do I have to keep track on a piece of paper, how much I've spent so that I don't go into the negative? Anybody know?

Thanks,

Jon

As far as I Know you just have to be aware of it and not spend too much. It happened to me too but luckily I got an offer for a player and was able to go positive.

Yeah man, you just gotta be aware of this! No need to keep a pencil and pen either! Simply round the numbers, blah blah blah, I am not going to tell you how to add and subtract next though!:p

Never go into the off-season expecting transfers either for your players! So when you do your math, make sure you got some in the bank left over! I have had seasons where I finished first for the season and got no proposals

As mentioned though, awareness is the key, nothing too complicated here really! Good luck with getting an offer!

Hahah, if your desperate to hold onto this team you can pull a "Leeds" and try selling some of your best players to get out of debt.

The same thing happened to me! But this is what I did:

Before th season starts, there´s a time when your asked if you want to start the season, pre-season matches or just keep negotiating. I played a few pre-season matches (I´m not sure but I think max is 3 matches) , besides making a little cash if you win(really low points). One of the teams I played against made me an offer right after the game. Could be a coincidence, but it sure as hell saved my ass!

This may be the only chance you´ve got!

Good luck mate!

Yeah, that second negotiating period is weird since no points are actually deducted until the season ends. It took me a few times to figure that out myself. Fortunately I was saved from a "Game Over" when the CPU bought a few of my players.

Interestingly enough, I recently signed a guy that everyone has been offering a ****load of points for, but he's one of my best players and I won't sell him.

If you have star players in your team, there is no doubt you' ll get an offer for someone, from another team. Btw, I was in my 7th season and after a mistake in transfers I was negative in points, my game was over and had to start all over again.

Ouch. I know that one hurt. I've been lucky enough to avoid the "Game Over" so far. *knock on wood* I am on my 2nd ML now though. The first was just an experiment to see how the ML worked. This is my "real" ML...

I too found myself in the same position a short time ago so i cheated,by that i mean i went into the general settings menu from in ML and raise the "transfer frequency" to max stars and then also reduce the"level of acquired players" to 1 star. Doing this will make the com make loads of offers for your players even the sh$t ones,(loadsa money)

That's why i say. Turn auto-save off in the pre-season. Save from the last game of your season, then start negotiating and turn auto-save off.

AAAA HAAAAAH!

Seriously though, that really sucks! I am surprised you had financial troubles though by your 7th season. Usually by that time you have racked up enough cash to not worry about such things. Usually my only worry season is my first, I always risk it by going into debt asap... anyway, blah blah blah. that's just plain tough!

That's a bit too extreme don't ya think! I think you could do fine with transfer frequency set to only 2 stars, level of acquired players to 4 stars, and quality of trade (i believe thats the last one) to 2 stars!

The only thing I do is turn auto-save off during the negotiation period in the off-season. That way you can actually "negotiate" for selling and acquiring players! Oh yeah, don't forget to put players on the release list! Clubs will be more willing to make bids for those players!

Thanks for all the tips folks.

I tried to transfer one of my good players to another team for one of their crap players, thinking I'd make up the extra cash in the difference. Well it didn't work (they accepted the trade but I didn't make much money), and no other offers came in, so my ML came to a screeching halt at the close of my 3rd season!

Lesson learned! It was disappointing, but I've already started another ML and this time around I know what to watch out for!
