Match Tactics (Team Instructions)

What tactics and team instructions does everyone set? What mentality, aggression etc?

Well, first of all I have a 4-3-3 tactic (aka 3-1-3-1-2), so a style of play such as short passing is good. But what does everyone else use? Anyone use long balls? Maybe that 4-3-3 "super tactic" with the wingers would be good with wing play?

Also about the mentality, do you use attacking, defensive or normal? Do you change this depending on whether you play at home or away, or against teams better than you? Personally I play to my team's strengths, not try to worry about the opposition, and my team's strength lies in attack.

And the third option on the tactics screen is aggression. Anyone play passive? Aggressive? I play normally, as passive would give my players a lax attitude to tackling which I don't want, aggressive would be over the top and result in too many cards. But if your players are intelligent enough and with good tackling, do you use it?

Just wondering what everyone else does and letting you see how my tactics work right now. Although I may end up changing them soon anyway, I'll have to test out some of these "super tactics". ;)

The A, B and C Tactics are designed to test out tactics - which is exactly what i do. Week by week, I try them out, e.g long balls with passive, short passing with offensive and so on. Whichever Tactic works best for me I use in the league game. When I first started the game I used to always have short passing, offensive and normal aggression - now I vary it a little.

I use the C tactics for my weakened team for friendlies (well, all friendlies except the MZ SG Tournament). With A and B I test out in friendly league matches. I came up against a team using that latest "super tactic" that teams like Kolbotn, Egg Chasers, etc all use. My tactics worked fairly well as with only four shots they all were on target and two went in, and my keeper played a blinder. :D I guess it's important to look at the opposition's tactics as well as you could win by a landslide, think you have a winning tactic and find the opposition messed up defensively. ;)

At the moment I still don't really have a decent tactic (I haven't had one since the sim change). The thing with the latest "super tactic" is that 2 of the defenders don't appear to do anything (0 passes, 0 tackles, 0 breaks, 0 shots) for me so I decided to experiment by moving these players into over areas of the pitch. The one I liked best was having 2 extra strikers so using a 2-3-5 but as we all saw that didnt work too well on Sunday so it's back to the drawing board.

Another important thing though is mentality etc and their relation to positioning of players. I was under the impression that playing defenders high up the pitch would be affective against a team using short passing, but if they used long balls they would play it over the defence. However without MZ Live or Analyzer I don't really know for certain. Carlos (g-b-h_boss) once described this aspect as like a game of rock paper scissors because you have to work out (or guess) what your opponent will use and make the appropriate changes to take advantage of this.

Yeah I noticed that with the wider defenders, best to play with three at the back instead and use the other man as an extra defensive mid, or put in an extra striker, etc.

The tactic I mentioned was what I used last season, now I'm changing it slightly now and then due to the new sim...

I doubt I'll ever play defenders that far, despite the fact I have three defensive players capable of playing in that formation (good speed and stamina). Not worth the risk in case they use long balls like you said.

I'm not sure about using long balls myself, but I will try it anyway, next time a team has high placed defenders so I can test it out. Even though I despise long ball football. :D Only thing is, those forwards need good ball control and probably also heading.

Yeh I always used to use short passing. It's only recently (in the last month) that I've used long balls because in theory it should work against teams that defend high up the pitch.

I don't have a decent tactic either, I am doing really bad I am doing a 4-3-3 Formation. I'm trying to be equal at each side so my defence is kept back so that nothing gos wrong there and my attack isn't too aggressive along with the defence. My midfeild is important so I wanted short passes so that everyone gets a touch so I can see who's hot and who's not.

I used a 4-2-4 with short passing which worked realy good...
Finaly I could win again...!:rockman:
Now I'm testing a 4-3-3 tactic with long balls...
For the rest I always use offensive and normal...

Ah, I see hoops' tactic is different, but there's still wingers. Some teams seem to have variations like AFC Swish as well but they all seem to have one striker with two wingers up front.

I had Kolbotn today using 2-3-5. I was winning 3-1 but they scored twice in the last 10 minutes so it was 3-3 in the end. I'm still rather pleased with that.

Do your defenders you have playing further up have good speed and stamina? I might try it as I have two players capable of playing there, another could be lower stamina, maybe I could use him in front of those two. I might play that tactic Koltbotn uses, but swap around the defence and midfield so it's 3-4 and not 4-3 at the back ... but I might move those wingers central. Those full backs only appear to do anything in matches when they come up against a team employing the same tactics (i.e. wingers!).
