Interista13
Starting XI
OMG, I am supremely disappointed with this game and once again our chances were ruined by the ref (AGAIN!!!)
In my opinion, the game started pretty well. It was clear Liverpool were unsettled and a bit nervous from the atmosphere, but around the 30th minute they settled in. Hmmm, seems familiar, could it be that Inter was the same in Anfield before Materazzi was gone?????
I thought Inter created some EXTREMELY superb chances that they simply had to put away. That Cruz effort was gold, and he missed it. It seemed as though two-thirds of the Inter attack was well, but they just couldn’t achieve the final third (the shooting part). It seemed as though they were to afraid to just boot it, and they kept passing hoping there would be a gap in the defense. Big no no. I mean, if you’ve got the ball, shoot it d@mmit! It’s now or never!
Second of all the set pieces. Now, Inter had PLENTY from which to put AT LEAST 1 away. But no, Ibra had to choke on all of them. When the first half ended I was buoyant, I thought Inter would come in the second half simply firing.
And then the red card came along. What I have to say to the ref is WOW. That guy had some MAJOR balls to do that. And btw, I called it too in yesterday’s post! But that ref should seriously quit and go back to being a psychologist in Norway. In the first half he slaps a couple of yellow cards, never gives another one to Babel who we must say, had a few dubious moments. And then in the second half the guy just goes crazy. Still, Inter deserves credit, for still playing decent even with 10 men.
So once again, in order to counteract the speculation that referees are helping Inter in Seria A, the refs just screw us over in Europe. Way to go!
Now about the match in general. It’s really a shame that out of all world-class players Inter has, the only one that constantly performs like he’s 20 on any stage is Zanetti. I mean, the man WAS a tractor. At the beginning he made several attacking runs straight through Liverpool’s midfield, as if no player was even near him. I can say that with this match Ibrahimovic has sealed the “big time chocker” title. The guy’s a beast who can change games in a flash and he wasn’t very spectacular at all. Heck, he even missed a golden chance too!! Even Cruz was better than him!
But I thought the defense was surprisingly well composed, I mean when I saw Rivas there I thought it was going to be a disaster. The midfield was pretty good too. Cambiasso did pretty good throughout the game but Viera and Stankovic just phased in and out too much. Stankovic was just way below what he can actually do. I mean, his foot is gold, a few long-range shots and he could have gotten a goal easy.
Before I end this rant I just want to question Mancini’s decisions. Why no Suazo? Why no 3 strikers? Why no Figo? All these players could have really changed the game. If I were him after the first half I would have replaced Burdisso for Suazo and just played with a 3-4-3 formation. But hey, he did a lot of grand things for Inter, but his inability to show himself in Europe will prove his end at Inter. If we do not have a strong finish to the season then bye bye Mancio. Even now I think Moratti is very hesitant to keep him…
It’s just a shame…Inter was a very powerful squad this season and we managed to blow away another UCL season…we had all the right players but they just failed at the last hurdle to put this game in the bag…a shame…
I wish all the best to, Schalke, Roma, BARÇA, and Fenerbahce…
**EDIT**
Mancini to step down this May as coach of Inter. Let the speculation about who the next coach will be begin!
