Lionel Messi was named the best U-21 player of the year 2005 by the italian newspaper TUTTOSPORT.

This year Messi won the U-20 World Cup with argentina, and was named MVP of the WC.

He also made his debut on the Argentina main squad.

And with Barcelona won La Liga, and is a constant starting player in the 2005/2006 season...

The Argentina Coach said that if nothing strange happen Messi will be in Germany next year...

And here in Argentina he was named Revelation of the year, he shared his award with Independiente's player Sergio Aguero (also U-20 World Champion).

Lets hope he continue improving...

Hopefully he does keep improving, we have seen an awful lot of talents who have peaked early and then lost it somewhere on the way to the top

Afellay sucks, rather give it to Aissati then, lot more potential. Actually just leave it at Messi he certainly is the biggest talent of the lot today. If he continues he really can be the next...

I am guessing that it was voted by the editors of that italian newspaper.

He is a left footed attaking midfielder. He never played in River, so he went on loan to Universidad Catolica in Chile, and he is playing great there, but the chile league isnt very competitive...some said that he will be return to River in 2006, but i think he wont be able to play, Gallardo and Montenegro are over him according to Mostaza Merlo...He is 22 year old.

I have alot of respect for Messi. He doesnt seem to be given to all the hype of alot of young, brilliant talents, and the boy seems to have his head screwed on his shoulders properly.

Compound that with the fact that his talent is huge, he seems to be more physically ready for top competition than many youngsters, and that he is in the perfect league with the perfect team to craft a young, gifted attacker, and I can see the lad reaching his maximum potential if things stay on course.

If that means that Gonzalo Higuain will play more... :ewan: Montenegro...

But i think is difficult since River pay a lot of money for Montenegro...

Messi is getting all the covers of the newspapers...
