beautiful goal, but i'll take Diego's goal any day of the week, i agree with a lot of people, Diego's goal was on the biggest stage of em all.

Good goal, I prefer long range shots, which aren't luck one bit considering the same people keep scoring them.

Ronaldo scored goals like this every week back in the day, this cant be considered goal of the century. As I said before had it have been any other player, no real fuss would have been kicked up about it

In your Play Station maybe. Compostela, his best goal, and that's it. People still remember that goal, just like people will remember the goal that Diego Messi scored last wednesday.

I really doubt people will remember this goal, honestly, it was a great goal but so what? It doesn't mean anything.

jesus christ, it will be remembered because it was a phenomenal goal, end of, not because it was in a world cup, not because it was in the Champions League final, but because it was a fantastic goal, that will run the internet, will be seen lots of times in TV, etc...

Like i still remember Bergkamp's goal against Newcastle i will remember this.

honestly, if anyone saw it, I think James McFadden's goal was a lot better, he showed a lot of skill and technique with a chip over and volley.

Goal of the millenium my ass. Ok, it's a really good goal, but the only fact that will make people remember it is the similarity to Maradona's. I mean the goal practically had no importance seeing that it was already 2 or 3-0, it's against Getafe, who let's face it, no one except the ones who constantly watch *all-around* football know about (we'd be lucky if more than half of the people here ever heard of it), plus it's the Copa del Rey. Yeah sure it's a great goal but it's far from 'Goal of the Century'.

Ronaldo's goal against Compostela was a league game. There was a big fuss, like this time, there was a big fuss when Zlatan scored that goal against don't know what team. People remember these goals. This one also is like a copy of Maradona's, wich was like impossible to happen until it actually happened.

The goal has been watched all around the world. In Spain it's all over the news, people are still talking about this goal. Now on TV they're showing the best goals of all time. Zidane's volley in the CL final, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo vs Compostela, Rivaldo vs Valencia, Cantona vs Sunderland, etc. When another "goal of the year" is scored, this goal will be included in that compilation of the best goals, for sure.

For the people who havn't figured it out yet, most of the haters are Brits.

And we all know that most Brits are extremely biased towards anything English related, as one can see from all the so called better goals scored in, you guessed it, the EPL .

Second, everyone also knows the Brits have a thing against Argentinians and this is especially evident when it comes to the two goals scored against England by Maradona in WC86. And becuase this goal is being compared to Maradona's and the fact that Messi is Argentinian himself, it easy to see where all this hate is coming from.

(H) nice try... but you lose. I don't think there is a rolleyes smiley big enough to illustrate what your post made me feel.

Nice shortcut though: so people who think it isn't goal of the century, hate the goal?

I have decided this goal isn't that amazing, it was just very poor defending. :)

Where did I say it was goal of the century?? All I am saying is that there is obvious bias here when someone downplays this goal and calls it average. Also, I don't understand how someone can compare a goal like this to long range strikes, which happen several times every weekend in every league.

You used "haters" to define the Brits in this thread. When what most of them are saying is that it's an above average goal, but not that stupendous.

Long rangers are the sh*t. Like getting a smack in the face, but in a good way.

Yes... we're reacting "over the top" to a great demonstration of superior dribling skill, balance and technique (H)

Maybe, you and many Brits will almost certainly forget about the goal.... but the rest of the World (most of it), will still remember it for years and years to come, and will always hail that goal, as one of the greatest... today, at the Campus, it looked like everyone was talking about it... everyone was praising Messi... very deservedly, i must add!

I wil never forget Messi's goal! Like i'll never forget Zlatan's or Ronaldo's beauties.... and i certainly won't forget Matt LeTissier's beauties... what a f****** legend.... (H)

Long range crackers are very spectacular, and some of them (like Matt Taylor's) are unforgettable too....

It takes a player with an excellent shot accurancy and power to score goals like that... but it takes a blessed/very skilful player to dribble past 5-6 defenders (plus the keeper), like Messi did, and still manage to score a goal!

Yeah, i also noticed that... it's not a surprise for anyone, i guess...

Zlatan Ibrahimovic puts this goal to bed.

Puts Messi's goal to bed? I really don't think so... i think it was a equally great goal... maybe, after a careful and meticulous analisis, one would say Messi's goal was better than Zlatan's or vice versa... but still, there would be nothing much between them....

Completely agree, this forum is invaded by Brits...had it been Rooney scoring the goal, than it certainly would have been a different story :)
