yeah i know.
i know they don't mean ****, but i think this time we are going to make it to the final 8 and maybe to the semifinals. we just need cuauhtemoc Blanco. He is going to play very well in the WC and Valladolid is going to be sorry, for not buying him. "how can you expect a player to play well and score goal when they don't let Blanco play?" (thats bull****!!!!!!!!)

I agree with that Mauricio. I'm Mexican and I don't think we are that good. I think we might not even get past the group stage since we have to play some pretty good teams. I think it was before World Cup '98 when Mexico was ranked 4th or 3rd. Pretty crazy stuff. What's your opinion on "El Cabrito"? Do you guys think Aguirre is going to take him to the World Cup?

It is meant to show accomplishment !!!
They base the ranking on the number of "A" Matches played and FIFA regulated tournaments and competitions won.
Some of these countries have awesome players but haven't been around and haven't played as many matches as others.
So next time you want to b|tch about the rankings, think about point values, not actual skill !

progress i.e It is not important at all, personally.

but for teams that dont get to play friendlies becos no one likes travelling so far like australia the ranking system is ****. The points me nothing.
Also u say its accomplishment, well how come, Australia beat France once and draw with them another time, plus beat brazil(at the confederations cup), but still look **** house on the rankings.(and none of this France and Brazil were understrength ****, so were we!-we didnt have Kewell, Viduka, Agostino, Tiatto, Bosnich, Aloisi etc, and in the second game where we drew with france both teams were full strength and france were lucky to get the draw, they were losing for most the match)
Also Australia comfortably beat Mexico in the Confederations cup as an understrength team too, we were missing the above players, and we still won 2-0.

You don't get more points for beating "bigger/better" teams. The more matches you play, the more tournaments you win, the more competitions that you triumph in, the more points you gain. That's put in simplest terms.

To put it simply, USA has been winning recent matches.
They won the Gold Cup...and they've won their last friendlies (with the exception of Italy a month ago)...
As for Mexico getting #8, I'm as puzzled as anyone else...they didn't even do so hot at the Gold Cup.
However, I can't remember the team Mexico played in a friendly recently, but I remember I had to eat my words saying that Mexico sucked...

Mexico won against Albania 4-0
I think they were great in the first half and they clearly outplayed the opposition. Nevertheless in the second half they drew back too much and anyone can see that Mexico still has to improve. I do have faith that by the time that the World Cup arrives, Mexico will be strong and will work hard to give a good show in the tournament.
