Mls Draft 2005

xxxFLYERxxx

Starting XI
BIG TRADE

San Jose traded MFs Richard Mulrooney, Arturo Alvarez and the 6th and 29th overall picks to FC Dallas in exchange for MF Brad Davis, an allocation and the 4th overall pick

---Will John is still available.

Starting XI
You're both wrong.

Nick Besagno - 17 years old, #1 pick, enough said

Danny O'rourke - the next Chris Armas, in my opinion.

Chad Barret, Drew Moor, Hunter Freeman, Will John all have alot of potential and are future National team players.

Maybe not the deepest draft, but some good talent. And Dallas improved like crazy - Richard Mulrooney, Arturo Alvarez, Drew Moor, Cornell Glenn + one more player to be named later=Henry Ring.

Who will be captaining DC now Ryan has gone to Blackburn? THe move means he won't be playing for NZ ever again either...

Besagno, at 16 years and 60 days becomes the second-youngest drafted player ever. Younger than Gaven, Quaranta, Capano, Convey and Eddie Johnson. Ellinger coached this kid, he wouldn't waste a #1 draft pick if Besagno didn't have some serious talent.

Other young players in the draft:

3. Chad Barret, 19 (Chicago Fire) - the American Wayne Rooney, U20 international
7. Hunder Freeman, 20 (cRapids) - U20 international
13. Jamie Watson, 18 (Lakers) - Freddy Adu's forward partner at the U-17 level
14. Christian Jimenez, 18 (Goats) - this kid is supposed to be the real deal
18. Will John, 19 (Chicago Fire) - U20 international
34. Quavas Kirk, 16 (Galaxatives) - the next Eddie Johnson, U17 international

This draft was strong on defenders, which is good because outside backs is the position at which the US has the least depth. I expect we'll see quite a few of these guys in a US jersey in the future.

Best pick of the draft:

34. Boyzzz Khumalo (Chicago Fire)

Best name ever. (H)

What do you know about Tony Lochhead? He got picked 33rd.

He has had a few caps at International level, and was named International Young Player of the Year at the 2004 NZ Soccer Awards. Studys at Santa Barbara I think... decent cross (for a defender) and was captain in several games for the All WHites when senior players were absent...

EDIT: Picture...
