More soccer violence today in Greece

I'm getting sick and tired of seeing fans throw bottles at players. Today I was watching Olympiakos vs. OFI and several times players were hit by objects.

The first one was when Giovanni was running down the sidelines with the ball, somebody threw something that hit him in the face, and he fell down.

The next couple of corner kicks involved people throwing stuff at the poor player taking the corner (I forget who it was).

What really pissed me off was that the police just sat there and did nothing about it. Why the hell do they have all that riot gear if they dont ever use it? I'm getting tired of the situation in Greece right now, and something has to be done about it. I don't know if it's this bad in other countries.

It makes me sick.

In alot of South American countries when a player is taking a corner, there are police men covering him all over with riot shields

I agree, England is the best example of how football should be. The level of respect shown by the fans towards the players is an excellent example that should be followed by the Greek fans and other fans where the situation is similar.

The English fans are just as passionate about their teams, they chant and yell and swear, but you rarely see fans throwing things at players or ripping out seats and throwing them at each other.

In Scotland, the Old Firm get away with EVERYTHING and it is covered up.

If we dare do anything a nanometre out of line it is blown out of all proportion and you get numerous OF apologists crying their outrage and proposing for us to play our games behind closed doors.

Example: A Hearts loon hits Diddy Douglas in the head with a coin (not that bad, might have knocked some sense into him that he's a failure of a footballer) - SCANDAL!

Some people are idiots. They need to realise "IT'S JUST A GAME!". Im sick and tired of the English fans acting like idiots aswell, but im happy that English fans havent cause any more trouble recently.

Compared to what I've seen lately in Greece, the fans in England are looking like angels. Seriously though, I dont know what they did to the fans in England to get them to behave (except when they play Turkey...) but its working.

PS. After the game I mentioned at the beginning of the thread, there was more violence and destruction and apparently the police did little if nothing...

Something has to be done, but what? I mean seriously what is it gonna take before soemthing big happens and whole teams get injured or worse due to riots that go onto the field or something? I still remember when that Serie B GK almost got his by a fire cracker. What if it was a bomb? Sure that sounds extreme but thats where things are headed.

This use to happen in the Turkish league, but the TFF made the team play their few home games without fans and fined the club. Now days its better, unless if it is a derby match. This week Fener vs Gala will be interesting to see. The first game fener fans were welcomed with flowers to the Gala Olympic Stadium, we will see how fener fans will treat us after the first game.

I think the Greek gov has to take control for these situations. The Greek Football Federation has to act qiuckly on it, or there will be alot of problems in the future of Greek football.

Thats not the solution, it doesn't matter how violent they're, they still carry a heart in them. Basically the Greek Football Fedaration should take charge with the gov and punish the fans and the clubs.

In Malaysia, the police are just stupid.....
we can throw anything but they'll not take action immediatly, after the match, they'll come and look who's the one but well u know, there's thousands of peoples around, they can't find who did it.....
uh, btw....they throws bottles, burgers (damn, my dad once throw mine while i was eating) and the worst, fireworks.....
any opposition team's player warming up near the fans, he'll get in his ass so hard.....

Don't know if you've noticed this or not.....but most of the trouble occurs when Olympiakos is playing......here's some examples

OSFPvs Aris at Kalamaria
OSFPvsPao at Apollon athens
OSFPvs AEK at AEK
OSFPvs PAOk at Apollon athens
OSFPvs PAOK at Toumpa

.....Now in the above examples OSFP fans have been responsible for episodes only once.....Sooo...I think that Mr.Kokkalis needs to stop buying the Greek Championship every year and let some one win who deserves it. Last year it was PAO the year before it was AEK the year before that it was PAOK the year before that it was PAO....In fact of the 7 championships OSFP has won in 5 there has been foul play (read...refs were bought out) . So you see this violence is not without reason. The fans of Greece, my self included are tired of seeing our country's sport being treated like a monopoly were the richest survive and the poor our bound for the Fourth division. Mr. Kokalis (President of OSFP) is to blame for the state of the sport. He should keep himself out of the Greek national football organization (EPO) and just let everyone play ball. Right now in my opinion Greek football is booring.

Every one except OSFP fans hate OSFP ( i.e. some 5 million fans) and every time the team travels somewere these episodes are bound to occur again and again.
