There was contact and he didn't get the ball. According to FIFA rules, a "reckless" challenge is usually a red card but what a "reckless" challenge is a very vague term and is very subjective. It was more worthy of a yellow though. Red is harsh but I presume it was given because he went in with both feet in the air for that challenge.

Another of my big issues with refs: when someone dives and falls on the ball and stops play. If I were the ref I would give a yellow for handball every time, but they never do. They always reward the guy falling on the ball and grabbing it with a foul.

Yeah, I've been noticing this for years. Players grab for the ball too much when falling.

Rooney matched Bobby Charlton's record with a goal scored with his right knee. (H) I am glad we won comfortably without Zlatan and Pogba.

3rd offside goal in a row. (H)

We have now won the last 9 games for the first time since 2008/09. If we win against Liverpool, we could be 2 points off them. Things looking good - 4th place is on the horizon. We've already lost too many points this season to win the league but I'm excited about next season.

Schneidierlin is going to Everton for 22 m, could rise to 24. He was bought at 24 so it's a good deal considering that he hardly played this season.

I had high hopes for him; I still think he was a good player for us. Mourinho never tried to play him; instead playing Fellaini. Carrick is 34 or 35 so I was hoping Schneiderlin would fill his boots. Now it looks like it may be Fellaini. I don't know what he needs to do to convince Mourinho that he is not good enough.

Sweet strike by Rooney. That looked like a flash of old Wayne Rooney brilliance.

Stoke yet again extremely lucky to draw. They scored from an extremely fluke own goal and didn't create much other than that.

Oh and of course, not much you can expect when Fellaini is playing. He's not doing anything wrong but he doesn't complement the style of attacking football Mourinho is playing.

Very good defensively, good header of the ball and good ball control but doesn't have good enough passing range and slows things down. He breaks the flow.

Carrick is slow too but he keeps things going with his excellent passing. I wished Mourinho had tried Schneiderlin more.

If we win tomorrow we will be 3 points off second placed Tott/Arse. As usual we will fuck up though.

Another average game from Pogba. Another goalkeeper man of the match. Rashford was shit on the left hand side. He just runs and loses the ball; can't cross, while Martial made 2 assists in the last game. I said it; we were going to screw it.

The main problem is that when Zlatan doesn't score, no one does. Micky was scoring a few goals and making assists but he stopped doing that even though he is still one of our better performers. The goals have to come from somewhere.

Can't really count on Pogba to provide that spark unfortunately. He has a lot to prove. He is far from the midfield greats like Iniesta. Even the current old and bald one. He should be bossing the midfield against teams like Hull. He is the more advanced playing midfielder with Herrera and Carrick doing the defending. He should be doing more offensively.

I don't understand why he keeps playing Rashford on the left. He can run sure but when he has gotten past his defender, he will lose the ball or put in a poor cross. His role is to be a striker. He is a pure striker. Not a winger.

I'm sure that benching Martial will be a significant blow for him.He made 2 assists in the last game and in general was more effective and useful than Rashford.

The other problem is this:

"United have won 14 of the 19 matches that Carrick has started this season, compared to only eight of the 18 for which he has not been included.

We are having to rely on 35 year old Carrick and Zlatan. The problem is Fellaini is being picked when Schneiderlin or even Schweinsteiger have not been given a chance.

I know. What I am saying is that Mourinho didn't give him a chance when we had him. Fellaini should have been sold. The wrong midfielder was sold.

Looked like Mkitaryan was about to be on that list too, and he has absolutely no time whatsoever for Schweinsteiger or Martial, which is at least a little odd. Both can certainly contribute to a rotation.

Micky is a different story because Mourinho signed him. I think he was just waiting for the right time to unleash him.

But I agree on Martial, Depay, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin not being given a chance while someone like Fellaini is playing every game.
