Youth Team
Last Sunday I had some friends at my house. One rather drunk one noticed flames coming from the road and laughed about it, then started talking about some band he had seen. Then more people saw so we investigated to find my car in flames. We sat about watching it burn, with explosions, before the fire team arrived to sort it out. Much of this was captured on video by my friend with his mobile phone which is cool. Once the fire was out, the firemen lifted the bonnet and looked at the melted wires, citing that they thought the fire started there. I didn't see how they could easily make that judgement based on the fact that the entire car was completely burned everywhere, so it would have been a miracle if the wires were not melted. However, I suppose they ought to know what they are saying.
The next day I spoke to a Police woman. She said she'd put it down as a crime to begin with, and then went to do some investigation, mentioning there had been several other burnings recently in the surrounding areas. She came back to me saying that she spoke to the fire service and they were pretty sure it was an electrical fault, and that she spoke to my neighbours who said they saw it in its early stages and that it was at the back of the car. Her conclusion seems to be that it was an electrical fault starting at the back of the car.
I have some problems with this because the firemen clearly stated whilst looking under the bonnet that they thought it was electrical and started there. It can not start in two different places and clearly her using the firemens report as evidence for it starting at the back makes no sense. I had not driven it for 5 hours or so. Some more friends had also recently arrived and may have seen something if it was smouldering away, as the firemen did say it could have smouldered for a few hours.
It is completely burned to nothing but a shell, and I lost quite a lot of stuff I had in the car, so it sucks. I'm not sure exactly what I will get from the insurance yet. I'm not really satisfied with the police conclusion, and as I said I don't see how the wires would not burn since the whole car burned, but I understand that the firemen should know what they are talking about. To me the witness evidents conflicts with what the firemen said. I still think it might be a crime because that stuff doesn't add up to me, and cars don't tend to spontaneously combust in the middle of a cold damp night many hours after they were last driving, when they were driving completely fine. The car was a Peugeot 309 Look, and the first car I ever drove.
