My new FIFA 2005 personal review...

Ok, last night I played FIFA SOCCER 2005 again... it`s been a while since I played it.. after only one match Arsenal (ME) vs Bayen M. I had to quit and go play WE8 J-League.

Once again I am very sorry but FIFA 2005 is hundreds of years away from WE/PES. The gameplay is still horrible it`s a horror playing it.. I just don`t understand one thing. Why can`t EA make the same gameplay as Konami do for WE/PES. Then we would have the perfect football game with licenses and everything that we could think off, but instead EA sticks to its own routines releasing the arcady footy game year after year..

I did notice a few things that are good ..but MOST of it was a complete sh!t. When it comes to passing well, short passes aren`t that bad they could improve them but comparing them to the other older FIFA`S shot passing is somewhat good in FIFA 2005. Long passes and crosses is where the horror comes. Long passes and crosses are IMHO ridiculous + verryyyyyy unrealistic. The ball is too damn light and it reaches your teammate within 1 secong. Once you do the long pass or a cross the ball will just fly so damn fast and when you add up the lightness of the ball then it feels like you`re playing a football with a balloon. This is totally unrealistic. You can`t even see the ball spinning like it does in PES/WE.

Shooting - OMG...where to begin.. why do they have this monster / superfast shot power...from 50 meters if you choose a good striker i.e Henry or Sheva.. even from 50 meters if you strike from that distance it will feel like you`ve striked from 10 or 15 meters...that`s how powerful the shot will be...and again the superfast ball will reach the keeper like there`s no tomorrow. AND once he catches it.. then you hear the sound like he just catched a basketball not a football.

Another thing that bothers me is...every single player can perform like a good player. Everything that I can do with Henry I can do with Kolo Toure for example...this is totally unrealistic.. In real life and in PES/WE Henry would own Kolo Toure but in FIFA 2005 they play the same..

The goals still look like bigger hockey goals with Metal nets.. why can`t they at least improve this so when you score a goal you can actually see that you scored instead the ball bounces back like it hit the wall..

Now to be honest I don`t like the camera angles anymore. In FIFA 2004 they had Broadcast camera which was the most realistic sh!t I ever saw.. you can adjust the zoom and the height it`s really cool.. now in FIFA 2005 you can`t do that anymore maybe I`m wrong..

The camera I`m starting to like in WE/PES is Normal Long on angle 9. It feels realistic. Broadcast 3 in PES/WE was good before especially in WE7/WE7IJ but now for some reason they ****3d it up...its even lower then when watching Arsenal play at home..so Normal long or intermediate on angle 9 is the best choice to go when playing PES/WE..Some people say it`s wide but the players get to be smaller... so I don`t like it..

The only thing FIFA needs to improve on is the gameplay...I think everything else is fine. If they make the gameplay as we see today in PES/WE then FIFA will beat WE/PES like there`s no tomorrow. ..but I know this and FIFA will never have the good gameplay like in WE/PES or even closer... year after year they will have this new phrases "off the ball control" first touch etc...they will get new licenses , and that will be it... the corner system still sucks, the free kick still sucks..

Konami already has the PERFECT gameplay and I do believe that they are doing their best to get the licenses for all the teams it will take time but look where we are today...before we didn`t have anything licensed except the Umbro ball..now the Holland league is licensed, Serie A fully licensed .. Spanish league fully licensed, JLeague fully licensed and so on... they are trying to make everything official but FIFA and EA don`t care about their sh!ty gameplay..

Now... the athmosphere... between FIFA and WE/PES is where PES/WE gets defeated, but again that`s because of the license issue nothing that Konami can do about it. But check this out..

You take a brand new FIFA 2005 and any PES/WE version that is fully patched with all licensing... FIFA WILL DIE IMEDIATELY.. The chants, the boots, the balls, the adboards, stadiums EVERYTHINGGGGG...

Some of you FIFA fans haven`t even played a patched PES/WE before..

WE/PES unpatched is like THE BEST football game EVER, and when it`s patched I wish there was some other word to desribe it it`s the BEST FOOTBALL GAME AND THE BEST SPORTS GAME EVER CREATED ....

I do like the commentary FIFA 04/05' has.. its incredible...

- This new game I`ve been hearing UEFA C.L by EA.. is a game based on Champions League... EA has already started to steal Konamis ideas...

- referee will now add an extra (injury time) and the icon will apear at the top left corner (something that WE/PES KONAMI first did).

- an advantage rule... (something that KONAMI did very early)

they can`t steal the gameplay so they can steal other smaller stuff... :hump: how cute...

i agree with u diggi:hump: as i got both games, and i wanted to post the same thing bifore, but there is no point as some fifa fan lovers, they will never agree :kader: so let them belive and play what they want.

good review, when considering your strong personal preference. Well done.
I couldn't agree more with FIFA'a shooting and ball physics when shooting. Agree also, that short passing looks great.

Different players do not control the same though. Probably have to play more to pay attention to that. For me PES/WE players seemed all the same in the beginning too.

good review diggi:) i think if Ea worked on the gameplay, changed the corner kick and other set pieces options they would unstoppable

unfortunately they arent:p

The same can be said about PES fans. Once again, another PES fan that acts "superior" because they cant even see that they act the same way, yet they act as if they dont.

They always say this and it is what leads me to believe that they dont play it on any difficulty past semi-pro or maybe even amateur. Yes on lower levels the players do all perform similar, notice similar not the same. Pump the difficulty up people. I play my career all the time, on Professional, and I am using the Columbus Crew (MLS Team) and we all know that American soccer players suck in comparison to the big leagues. I can not pull the same crap with them that I pull with the players on Germany, not even close to the same tricks. If I do try a fancey trick, 9 out of 10 times they will screw it up seeing as how they do not have the skills of the European players.

I only play PES with the wolf's patch. I wouldnt have it any other way. :p

First off, diggi... Respect to you for giving the game that you love to hate, another chance. ;)
It,s also a decent review too, but in places as expected a bit over exagerated.

Like i,ve already said in another thread, you will not be able to get used to the gameplay of Fifa, from playing 1 match.
Don,t forget that i have spent hours playing PES4 on PC & Xbox, over the last 3 months.
So i have allowed myself plenty of time to adjust to the controls and gameplay. ( which actually took a couple of hours tbh );)

I just don,t see how you can have the full perspective of a game, from playing one 4, 8 etc minute match.
If i had the same attitude as you, i would have un-installed my PES4 demo within 5 minutes. But i didn,t ..
I stuck with it, and even arranged to play it on Xbox so i could get used to the complete game , using a controller.

Diggi, Fifa is NOT PES and we both know that it doesn,t play the same... In a way, i would actually now class PES has the slightly easier game to play.
As deftones said, it,s just the awkward controls that make it seem more complex.

I.ll also be honest and admit that when i first played fifa on my PS2 just before xmas, i thought exactly the same about the game as you... " A pile of S**t.
I just couldn,t get my head around the game at first, as i tried to play it like previous Fifa,s.
So i just had a mess about on the practice pitch for an hour and just kept on trying different things out. Finally it just started to click into place one night...:)

You have to get used to the First Touch and the 3 different types of Pass, Through ball & Cross , and learn when best to use which one, depending on the situation. When combined with the skills and player runs, Believe me, the gameplay Does become a lot more fluent & entertaining.
Btw you do need to put as much level of thought into Fifa as in PES. ( if not More )

Back to your points ....
Yes we all know that the ball physics in Fifa isn,t as nailled as PES.
But if any game has the floating ball, i would have said PES.
It stays in the air forever, after goalkicks or set-pieces...

As for the shooting, well it actually is quite varied, but the odd bullet does sneak in, from time to time ... Headers are the worst tho.
Anyway, you,re only jealous because most of the shots in PES are as weak as p**s .... ;)

The camera angles are Far better than PES,s and you know it.. That,s why theres no real need to use the radar.
The Broadcast Camera is my honest favourite, but it could do with having a zoom, when moving up & down the pitch. ( like PES )

Player Skills & Attributes, do differ .. But you have to play more than 1 game, to find that out.

Goal nets are Rubbish, and they,ve been that way for a couple of years now. Concrete i would say, more than steel... :D

End of the day, ( and this post ) Both games are not perfect.
It,s just that Konami have managed to do a better job of the ball physics and shooting aspects of the game, than EA.
I can,t give them credit for the player movement, because it,s so unlife like, especially the running. Fifa gets that award imo.
As far as fifa will never come close... Well they haven,t done too bad within the space of 4 months, if you compare UCL,s gameplay to Fifa,s ... Even if it is a f*****g rip off..

Also don,t underestimate EA either... Trust me, if the truths known. They have got the player & ball physics down to the nail, as well as other things...
But in typical EA fashion. We will probably have to wait untill Fifa 07+, before we get to see it... ;)

And let,s not forget that the introduction of PS3 & XB2 are getting ever nearer, allowing far more scope. ( for both games ).. :)

Shaft...you seem like a mature gameplayer and you probably understand that gameplay is what makes the game good or bad..

PES/WE: good realistic & lifelike gameplay
FIFA : Bad gameplay...

you have to agree with me on this one as more than half of the world thinks so too..

No matter for how many hours I play FIFA I still don`t like it. I know how to play the game, I perfectly know the control system and to me it`s pretty user friendly.. but the bottom line is FIFA offers unrealistic gameplay that is impossible to achieve in REAL LIFE, while in PES/WE everything seems possible, everything is so realistic and everything is just like real football...

I did something this morning that proved my theory at least to me.. didn`t have nothing to do..so I watched a 30min match taped Euro 2004 Germany vs Chech Republic .. after watching I popped in FIFA 2005 and played the same match.. I was Chech Rep..

I won 2 - 0 on the hardest level and even Poborsky got a red card...so I was with 10 players...

One goal was scored by Milan Baros from 37 meters, the another one by that tall s.o.b he scored a goal from 33 meters I think... all I have to do is aim right and shoot 99.99% the ball will fly directly to the goal..even if shooting from 50 meters... I had enough of this and put on WE8J.

Played the same match on star 6 won 3-1..

but this felt like watching a real life football match...

got a hatrick with Baros scored one goal from penalty, another great header and from a free kick... then Kurayni scored for Germany an awesome strike from 15 meters... which one sounds to you more realistic... I guarantee you THIS... any match with even the lowest national team or club team I`ll be able to score from 30 meters or above... I GUARANTEE YOU THIS..and you know its true..

This got me very mad and I promised myself I will never ever play that sh!t again...

Diggi, man ... You seriously need to lay off the Weed ...:mrpimp:
Yes i am a mature gamer... I also know which game looks the more realistic to watch... And it isn,t PES. :(
It may have the slightly more realistic ball physics, but it,s like watching 22, early 90,s arcade game figures, running around a painted pitch to me... But each to his own, mate ...

And Remember... Puff, Puff, Passsss ..:funny:

@shaft, after defending my attitude towards pes4, i must admit that there are many things in it, which aren't that realistic, especially the balance of the player stats and the fact that it's difficult to outrun slow defenders e.g. stam with henry, this may be better in fifa, but after playing the PC version of Winning Eleven International 8 which IS similar to PES, i noticed that there are many differences in it, especially in cases of game balance, stats are much better balanced now e.g. it's much easier to outrun defenders with players like henry or ronaldo now, the passing, shooting, headers abilities are now much better reflected on the pitch and the difference between players with good and bad stats directly influences the gameplay. I have to admit that i was disappointed after playing pes4, but after trying we8i, i noticed that it's the real deal. I have fifa, played it several times, but hate the freekick and corner kick system, which makes it way too easy to score (especially free-kicks) and looks totally unrealistic as in real life, u don't have a cross hair or text decisions as it is in fifa

edit: gr8 review btw !!!

What makes you think konami has the money to make EA hide in a corner and not buy them again. EA is the BIGGEST game publisher out there. If they have the money to buy the NFL and the ESPN license, why wouldnt they have the money to renew the FIFA license. You have to remember that this is business, it doesnt matter which game is better, it matters who will pay more. The SEGA/Visual Concepts Football games have been the higher ranked game for the past 4 years over Madden and did the NFL care? No, they only were worried about the money that EA was willing to pay.

I can only second what deftones has already said, really.
But you do seem a bit, too Obsessed with PES, mate.
It,s only a video game, Not life or death...

Yes i do have a soft spot for fifa, because i,ve been playing the game for nearly 10 years,
and had some great laughs against friends over the years doing so.
Especially with the fact that you were basically playing ping-pong up untill the last couple of years.
But it,s always just been a bit of fun to me, as Nothing will compare to watching or even better, playing the real thing.

To get to the point where you are putting up posts comparing the speed of shots at different distances on a video game,
is a bit too much mate ...;)
Even to the degree that you could get so worked up, and actualy hate a video game so much...

Diggi, i enjoy playing both games, and if EA were to suddenly decide to stop releasing Fifa.
I could easily get as much fun out of playing PES instead.
If it were the other way around, i think you would probably end up, committing suicide ... :funny:

NFL was tupid enough to do that. didnt you know the MLB and NBA said hell no, cus they know sega owned ea in those two departments and also in their hockey series. what makes you think ea will buy out konami with exclusive licences? Many more players back konami like henry and totti. ea do not have the balls to by exclusive licenses

every person that posts about players liking PES more only mention those two players, thats not much in comparison to the entire FIFA league. Konami will not have the money, I never said EA would buy it like the NFL, the FIFA license has never been like that.
