We are considering closing down the ManagerZone community site dur to lack of participation. It seems most members prefer to use the official MZ site or have created their own community sites for member collaboration.

The site is:
http://mzone.soccergaming.com

Unless yoe feel differently or have suggestions for justifying the cost to keep it open, we are planning to take it down on September 30.

What? :S

Where was that, MZ's Open Discussion forum?

I take it they have to pay for the server space for mzone.soccergaming.com, then?

Don't want to see this place go...

I'm pretty sure it's provided by Soccer Gaming, free of charge.

And this forum will stay anyway. I'll make sure it does.

well that sucks. I doubt there'll be enough support from MZ users to keep it to be honest with you.

I'm not sure if MZ is paying SG anything for hosting their site, if so, they have the right to close it. I will try everything though.

Anyways, "lack of participation" we get some 200 visits a day...almost 40k in a few months of work, what do they expect??

200 visits a day, 40k in just a few months. What is the price you pay for hosting?

As Ash said, we've a great community there, compared to these forums, those guys are angels. No cursing, no flaming threads, nothing similar to that.

May I know the reason you are closing it? 200 unique visits a day can't be "lack of participation".

Also, if you wanted to keep it up, why didn't you post global news when we needed newsposters and webmasters? To be honest, you didn't do ANYTHING. Also Rick, how many times have you exactly been to the site and looked around?

Answer these questions please

Blue, Webmaster of the MZ SG Community site.

If the site is free, where are the charges mentionned, then? :S They don't have to pay for the webspace or bandwidth?

They only advertise this site on MZ which is their own site, the only way I can see any costs is the banner ads at the top, but that's hardly going to lose them anything. I've never followed any of those links other than the one to this site.

If they're not paying for webspace, bandwidth, advertsing etc where's the cost to run the site?

This site cost managerzone.com a lot of money each month. It is not a free thing or just to promote managerzone. We will try our very best to come up with money to keep it alive but we will most likely also try to look at some creative solutions as well.

I was under the impression that MZ and myself (representing SG) were in discussions to work out a way that we could keep the site up and running. It is unfortunate that Rick has come out and made such a statement, when I was under the impression that both parties could easily come to an arrangement which would see the site continue into the future.

I am still confident we can work together to see the MZ SG site stay up and running and there for a long time to come. Personally, I would like to apologise that such an announcement has been made when in reality it is way to soon to be making such a statement, especially when the last thing we want to see happen is have the site close down.

I would like to know how many people here found out about MZ through Soccer Gaming? I would imagine most of you did?

Well if the MZ Forum was to be shut-down couldnt someone just make a sticky in the Non-Football Relaited Forum and we could all migrate there??????????????/

The Forum ISN'T closing. The site may be closing. But ManagerZone don't own any part of Soccer Gaming do they? I thought the site was owned by Matt

It is owned by me. Do not panic people, I am confident MZ and SG will work something out that suits both of us.

Many people forget ManagerZone is financing this site...Soccergaming isn't hosting anything for free, they money MZ gives to SG is explicitely for bandwidth and hosting services, which are pretty high (I can't give any figures).

Just so people don't get the wrong idea... any payment that MZ makes for us operating a community site for them is all put towards our server expenses. We have over 8 dedicated servers now for the network, and they are not cheap. I am not making money from this personally.

Dont get me wrong, I dont want you to get shut down but if you only get a few hundred hits a week, why do you need 8 servers?
