How can you put anyone other than Buffon in goal? He's been perfect, and never once has he looked out of place to me. I didn't watch the Ukraine game, but from the highlights it seemed like Buffon was getting absolutely peppered. If you have an average keeper in net, Ukraine may have won, or it could have gone to extra time.

I think Klose, Zidane, and Lahm are the other automatic picks.

Yeah I tend to agree. Great DMs go unnoticed until they aren't in the team; Madrid found that out the hard way with Makelele. A lot of people are pimping Mascherano, and to me he has the same effect on games as Makelele (I never notice him personally, but every team's attacking midfield is just non-exisistant), but let's be real, Makelele is the best at what he does. A lot of people say this about American players and it's true, but Mascherano needs to come to Europe. Playing in Brazil, even for such a rich club, is not advancing his career as far as it could go.

I flirted with the idea of putting Juan in mine. I hadn't even heard of him before the WC but he is a very solid central defender as far as I'm concerned.
