I am going to buy a new graphics card with some xmas money i got but i'm not to sure which one to go for? I would prefer a Nvidia but would also take ATI if conviced, my budget is £220 max.

Need help choosing graphics card

I'd recommend an nVidia then since ATi don't really compete in this category. A 6600GT is a good buy if you dont play in resolutions higher than 1280*1024 as at 1600x1200 it tends not to perform as well. This can be had for £119.95 on special offer on overclockers. (www.overclockers.co.uk) A 6800LE or 6800 would be the better choice as they have a 256-bit memory controller (6600GT is 128-bit), and also there's a chance of unlocking the pipelines and overclocking it to basically give a faster card, like an equivalent of a 6800GT. (although bear in mind pipe unlocking/overclocking is pot luck on if you get a good card or not)
If you had +£250 I'd recommend the X800 series, but for now I'd suggest a 6600GT or 6800LE/6800 from www.overclockers.co.uk

Thanks for the great detail champdave and i will probably go for a 6800LE or 6800 from www.overclockers.co.uk (Could you tell me exactly what card is best to go for?).
Regarding a X800, exactly how much more would it cost and would it benefit me much more just to put extra money and get that?
